December happenings in NC live art

Black Friday art deals, December meetups, new and changed meetups, and more...

Before we get going, you can help support this website and newsletter by sponsoring directly, or by buying things you normally would through these two affiliate links, both with Black Friday deals - you don't pay more while also supporting an independent community organizer and content creator (and get book recommendations!):

This Month's (Moving) Art Events

As always, several figure drawing and general art meetups are occurring every month in the same place - you can find links to those on ncartmeets.com. Here are the outdoor meetups:

  • Saturday, December 13: Urban Sketching at CAM Raleigh with Scott Renk's CAM Raleigh USK group
  • Before midnight December 24: Sketch in place then share your sketch! Send me your sketches, and I will share them on the NC Art Meets Instagram as well as either a Google photo album or add a blog to this site to show them off. In your email include:
    • The image
    • Title or description - can be a blurb about the inspiration, etc. (optional)
    • Your name
    • Your social handle(s) and/or website

New/changed meetups

  • Wilmington was feeling left out, so I added 2 figure drawing sessions at Cameron Art Museum. Drop-ins welcome if you travel there!
  • Tom Steven's life drawing in Hillsborough has changed their times and cadence. It is now 2nd Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm & 4th Tuesdays 3:00-5:00pm.
  • I've added 2 annual events that occur in the fall - Blowing Rock and Foothills plein air festivals.

Durham Art Council class registration opens December 5

Just a little reminder for those of you frustrated because the figure drawing sessions sell out so quickly. Set a reminder for 10:00am next Friday. DAC classes

The Throwdown

The Durham Main Library turned out to be a great good/bad weather location though we had excellent weather:

You can see a video of all the works up close on Instagram.

Content and fun stuff

  • Tiny Art Show Repurposes a Disused Stairwell into a 1:6-Scale Gallery - such a fun idea
  • Urban sketching art supplies - I wrote this for my students for an ink and watercolor USK fundamentals class, but thought some of you might like bikeshedding about art supplies

Sponsorship

I'm looking for a few monthly sponsors to help make this newsletter and site more sustainable. If you know of a potential business sponsor, please let me know! Also, individuals can support in smaller ways - on Patreon, Ko-fi, or Github Sponsors.

Feedback

If you have suggestions for future things I should announce or post in the monthly, let me know! Also, please let me know if you learn about any additional meetups not yet on the site. Feedback for the newsletter and the website are always welcome.
