September happenings in NC live art
In this issue, I cover general September announcements, throwdown pics, and upcoming annual plein air events!
This Month's (Moving) Art Events
As always, several figure drawing and general art meetups are occurring every month in the same place - you can find links to those on ncartmeets.com. Here are the outdoor meetups:
- Saturday, September 6: WRAL Azalea Garden with Raleigh Outdoor Painting Group.
- Saturday, September 13: Urban Sketching at CAM Raleigh with Scott Renk's CAM Raleigh USK group
- Saturday, September 20: Fuquay Mineral Spring Park with Raleigh Outdoor Painting Group.
- Monday, September 22: American Tobacco Campus with Durham Plein Air/USK (sorry I have a watercolor conference that Saturday!)
- M.U.S. SketchUp is TBA
Paint It Orange is back!
The Orange County Arts Commission presents the 9th Annual Paint It Orange Plein Air Paint-Out and Wet Paint Sale October 1 – October 3, 2025. Sign up and get all the details.
They dropped the weekend option this year but hope to bring it back next year. If you can take a break during the week to paint, it's a great local plein air event!
The exhibit will be in the Tom Stevens Gallery this year due to the Eno Mill flooding.
Plein Air Abingdon
I recently learned about Plein Air Abingdon which is only 3 hours away in Virginia. Unfortunately, it overlaps with Paint It Orange, but I hope next year they don't so I can do both - I've added it to the website on the annual events page.
The Throwdown
Do you know a place you've always wanted to sketch or paint in Durham or Orange counties? Let me know so I can host an event there!

I'm looking for a few sponsors to help make this newsletter and site more sustainable. If you know of a potential business sponsor, please let me know! Also, individuals can support in smaller ways - on Patreon, Ko-fi, or Github Sponsors.
Feedback
If you have suggestions for future things I should announce or post in the monthly, let me know! Also, please let me know if you learn about any additional meetups not yet on the site. Feedback for the newsletter and the website are always welcome.
