August happenings in NC live art
In this issue, I cover general August announcements, throwdown pics, and supporting Orange County arts after Chantal.
This Month's (Moving) Art Events
As always, several figure drawing and general art meetups are occurring every month in the same place - you can find links to those on ncartmeets.com. Here are the outdoor meetups:
- Saturday, August 2: Bass Lake Park with Raleigh Outdoor Painting Group.
- Saturday, August 9: Urban Sketching at CAM Raleigh with Scott Renk's CAM Raleigh USK group
- Saturday, August 16: Historic Oakwood Cemetery with Raleigh Outdoor Painting Group.
- Saturday, August 23: Victorian Coffee Shop - Haw River with M.U.S. SketchUp
- Saturday, August 30: NC Botanical Garden with Durham Plein Air/USK (shifted by a week to not overlap with M.U.S. SketchUp)
Supporting Orange County Arts Commission
In case you missed it, the Eno Mill in Hillsborough flooded with 3-4 feet of water from Chantal. The Orange County Arts Commission was located there plus several artist studios. You can support them and their artists through donating directly, or bidding in the Common Good Mutual Aid Auction (link TBA).
They were able to move their summer campers to an alternate location. We're still waiting to see when adult classes at the Mill can continue or if another site will be set up. The current word is that they will be back in the Eno Mill in 8 weeks. That seems quite fast, and I hope it happens.
If you go to Tom Stevens' Life Drawing, those have been temporarily moved to his gallery.
I just heard on Friday that the excellent Paint It Orange Plein Air Paint Out and Wet Paint Sale is still planning on happening. The word is right now that Tom Stevens is donating his gallery space. I'll keep you updated as we get closer.
The Throwdown
Do you know a place you've always wanted to sketch or paint in Durham or Orange counties? Let me know so I can host an event there!
Here are a few pics from our Durham Plein Air/USK July meetups at the Durham Farmers Market and the "nocturne" session in downtown Hillsborough for Last Fridays:
I also filled in for Scott at CAM Raleigh - here are the pics from Nash Square Park:
Sponsorship
I'm looking for a few sponsors to help make this newsletter and site more sustainable. If you know of a potential business sponsor, please let me know! Also, individuals can support in smaller ways - on Patreon, Ko-fi, or Github Sponsors.
Feedback
If you have suggestions for future things I should announce or post in the monthly, let me know! Also, please let me know if you learn about any additional meetups not yet on the site. Feedback for the newsletter and the website are always welcome.
