A Note to Our Community: Protect Big Bend. Protect Each Other.
As construction moves forward in the Big Bend region, we know many of you are feeling the same things we are: heartbreak, frustration, anger, and an urgency to do something.
Sometimes it can feel like we are powerless—or like we are shouting into the void when we call our officials, submit comments, sign petitions, and ask for help.
We share your frustration. And we want you to know: we are pulling every lever we can to protect Big Bend.
Those of us behind the scenes at No Big Bend Wall are locals. When we talk about protecting Big Bend, we are talking about our homes, our ranches, our livelihoods, and our communities.
We do not take any of this lightly.
Our strategy extends far beyond signs and signatures. We have efforts underway at the local, state, and federal levels, and we are working to share more about those strategies with you soon.
Right now, we are helping support lawsuits. We are helping private landowners hold the line. We are tracking county regulations and pushing for compliance. We are sharing information and strategy across hundreds of miles of borderland. And we are building a diverse coalition that represents the people and communities of this region.
But we need your help protecting our ability to do this work.
As the locals who have been on the ground fighting this since February, we are asking everyone who cares about Big Bend to partner with us:
Please do not engage in violence, harassment, illegal activity, or unauthorized direct action.
Please do not confront construction crews, contractors, law enforcement, park staff, or government personnel. Do not put yourself—or anyone else—at risk.
We are receiving reports of park rangers being harassed and run off the road. We are hearing about people entering local businesses looking for confrontation and telling residents they have come here to start trouble.
There are powerful ways to fight: organize. Document. Contact elected officials. Support landowners. Show up at public meetings. Donate. Share verified information. Participate in peaceful, lawful advocacy.
We need time and space to pull every lever available to us. Rash or illegal actions could jeopardize the efforts that people across this region are working tirelessly to build.
Our strength in this fight has always been our unity.
We need you in this fight.
We need you safe.
And we need you with us for the long haul.
