TPWD Commission Hearing
This past Wednesday, 101 speakers stood before the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission to advocate for Texas state parklands in the Big Bend. Ranchers, outfitters, river guides, landowners, hunters, anglers, scientists, former TPWD officials, law enforcement, state leaders past and present, and neighbors from every corner of Texas packed the room, each speaking to a different element of what's at stake.
TPWD Commission Chair Paul Foster told the room the commission agrees with what they heard, and that the agency is working with the governor's office and the federal government to minimize damage to the park and the whole region.

CBP Commissioner Pauses Construction: But The Fight Isn't Over
Two days before the hearing, CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott paused construction inside Big Bend National Park to visit the region and talk with local stakeholders himself. He said he wants to hear directly from the people who know this land. That's exactly what the public comment period is for.
CBP is accepting public comments on border infrastructure in the Big Bend region through August 31. If you haven't submitted yours yet, now is the moment.
