MOON BULLETIN - solstice summer, so sweet

So, here we are. Suddenly, the longest day of the year is just a new moon away. There’s a vibrancy to the city these days: on my way to a picnic I get absorbed into a 500 person bike caravan, friends recall meditating when an impromptu marching band assembles down their street, late into the evening I’m eating pierogi, playing toontown, making diagrams. Suddenly we’ve shifted from spring buds and flowers to the green overflow of summer in the city. I’m still always amazed at just how much the city bursts with color in this time of year — a far cry from the burnt-brown grass of the Texas summers of my youth. It’s a wonderful time to gather, but also to connect with the cycles of life around us, remembering that the moon always watches over us, the seasons always come and go, the trees will swing so, so beautifully in the wind if you only take the time to watch. Personally, I’m on the mend and feeling the flow, sun on my skin and ending each day with dirty toes. Anyways, come hang!

🌗 Bioart WIP Show at Genspace: Last Quarter (Mon Jun 8 @ 6:30pm). The future of materials is biological, I think. Come witness the new experiments and good vibes at this showcase. Free.

🌘 Kalia Vandever Album Release at Le Poisson Rouge: Waning Crescent (Wed Jun 10 @ 6:30pm). Gonna be so lovely, this one. Isa and Eden are playing too! $26.78.

🌘 Elemental: Water at Prospect Park: Waning Crescent (Thu Jun 11 @ 6pm). Part two of Miranda and Kayla’s series exploring the elements through art and good food — in this one, make watercolors with food dye! Sliding scale, $35 suggested.

🌘 The Party at the School of Radical Attention: Waning Crescent (Thu Jun 11, 18, 25 @ 6:30pm). Still a couple spots left to come join the party :). Come co-create a theory of partying as an art practice and a political practice. And even if you can’t take the class, if you wanna talk parties, hmu! $200-280 for 3 sessions.

🌘 NY Philharmonic at Prospect Park: Waning Crescent (Fri Jun 12 @ 8pm). Saint-Saëns’ cello concerto no. 1 on a lovely prospect park evening … divine! Free.

🌘 ChatGTFO at 875 3rd Ave Lower Level: Waning Crescent (Sat Jun 13 @ 2pm). Come take over a privately owned public space in manhattan with a carnival of AI-critical activities: AI psychosis speedrun, automatic job rejections, AI slop photobooth, etc. etc. Rumor has it I will make an appearance as my altar ego Peter Thiel… Free.

🌑 Public Service at Herbert Von King Park: New Moon (Sun Jun 14 @ 2pm). My great post-injury return to the dance floor. Gonna be getting out all my frustration at being immobile for the past few weeks. Time for the people’s church. Free.

🌑 New Moon (Sun Jun 14). This will be the shortest night of the new moon of the year. In a time of long days and frantic summer energy, it’s ever so important to use this time to reflect and rest. My prompt for this new moon is inspired by a question I posed to some friends yesterday: has your life, lately, been comprised of more simple or complex pleasures? What kind of balance do we need to carry us through this next moon cycle? A sunday evening under the new moon is an excellent time to respond.

🌒 Wish You Were Here at Bar Jade: Waxing Crescent (Tue Jun 16 @ 7pm). An evening of delightful prose reading; I am planning to leave very inspired!! Free.

🌓 Elemental: Air at Prospect Park: First Quarter (Sat Jun 20 @ 2pm). Lately, I have been acutely feeling a sense of yearning for the air. I lay in prospect park watching the hawks float high above, wishing to embody that sense of floating. Anyways, come make citrus garlands and enjoy delicious treats with friends in the park. Delightful! Sliding scale, $35 suggested.

🌓 Solstice in the Park at Prospect Park Concert Grove Pavilion: First Quarter (Sun Jun 21 @ 4pm). Longest night of the year! So perhaps you’ll want to spend it with like minded ritualists? Personally, I’m so looking forward to not hosting something for once, just enjoying the feeling of community and connection to natural rhythms <3. Free.
