MOON BULLETIN - back in brooklyn, baby
Touching back down in Brooklyn means almost immediately heading to a sold out talk on tree consciousness, seeing about a dozen people I know there, then a birthday party, then heading home to prepare for my next day: some meetings, a moss dance performance, a felting workshop, and throwing a theatrical no phones dance party. We're so back, baby. Spring is here and you can see it in the blossoming trees, and feel it in the accelerating social world. Lots of exciting offerings ahead, hope to see some of yall there. 𓆏

🌗 LET’S GET OFF TOGETHER at telos.haus: Last Quarter (Fri Apr 10 @ 9pm). Started as a phone-free rave became.. something bigger more theatrical more chaotic more amazing — around 20 people involved in making this happen, come bask in the world we’re building together! Suggested $15-20 donation.
🌗 Ride the Quiet Car at 96th St Q Train: Last Quarter (Sat Apr 11 @ 11am). Turn an entire train car into a quiet phone free sanctuary, and get a copy of Nicole’s amazing book Quietest Places in New York City in the process! Free.
🌘 Unplatform Creatives Workshop at Brooklyn Central Library: Waning Crescent (Sun Apr 12 @ 2pm). This project invites artists, musicians, writers, and all other creatives from across NYC to come together for a conversation where we'll collectively imagine a vision for creative life outside the shadow of Silicon Valley - and, more importantly, think about how to make that vision a reality. Damian is thinking very hard about how to move the infrastructure of creative life into our hands! Free.
🌘 Peanut Eating Contest at Genspace: Waning Crescent (Sun Apr 12 @ 2pm). I’m very sad to be missing this peanut eating contest that doubles as a way to generate material for Caroline’s biomaterials project! But not that sad; I don’t really like peanuts… Free.
🌘 An Evening of Music at TJ Byrnes: Waning Crescent (Sun Apr 12 @ 7pm). August is hosting an evening of music (screen free) at the most strange-yet-endearing bar in FiDi. Just come by, no registration needed. Free.
🌘 (OFF)TECHSUPPORT at Crown Inn: Waning Crescent (Tue Apr 14 @ 6:30pm). Just going to copy this awesome description from Connor: You want to type on a light phone for the first time. I've got a good browser extension for YouTube. You want a five-borough paper atlas. I want to make my first Jitsi call. You have a Nokia. I have the NYT website blocked on my iPhone. You want to know if you can connect Bluetooth headphones to a dumb.co phone. I've been meaning to copy my contacts into a phone book. LET'S TALK! Free.
🌑 New Moon (Fri Apr 17). All around us are blooms, blossoms. The nonhuman world is unleashing, shedding its protective layers to reveal itself to others. What might you unleash and reveal during this time? How will it facilitate your own blooming?

🌑 Soup Sets in Brooklyn: New Moon (Fri Apr 17 @ 8:30pm). We had to postpone the previous soup sets party due to scheduling, but we’re back baby! Weather is looking nice so we’re thinking to make this a lil outside/roof/patio gathering. Four soups, four sets, one good ass time. Free, RSVP for address.
🌑 Tree ID Tour in Central Park: New Moon (Sat Apr 18 @ 11am). Nothing says Saturday morning like wandering through a park looking at leaves. I love trees!! Free.
🌒 Bat Cafe: Roots and Roosts at Flying Fox Tavern: Waxing Crescent (Tue Apr 21 @ 7pm). Tree identification and talking about bats with fellow bat-lovers. Bats are such a wonderful and often under-appreciated part of our city. $12.51
🌓 Karfari: COLOR at McCarren Park: First Quarter (Sat Apr 25 @ 1:45pm). Another Karfari — starting in the park, meandering through Greenpoint to spy vehicles and converse on why the fuck is everything so gray??? Can’t wait to talk about the bright blue truck I learned to drive in. Free.
🌓 Consumption Book Club: Annihilation at Index Greenpoint: First Quarter (Sun Apr 26 @ 4pm). This one is a cornucopia of offerings. Following the theme of re-generation, we’ll be leading a generative writing workshop with an array of simply delightfully strange foods and learning how to make paper from food waste from artist Lily Massee! Everyone will leave with a zine, food-waste paper, and new creative writing methods + art of their own! Discount codes upon request if cost is an issue :) $120-180.
