It’s easy not to talk about it…
It’s easy not to talk about it.
It’s easy not to talk about Palestine. All you have to do is sit at home, where it’s warm, where it’s comfortable, where you hopefully feel safe (as you deserve to!), and literally not talk about it. Even if there are other people in the house, it's pretty easy not to talk about Palestine.
It’s easy not to talk about Palestine at work. In fact, your boss sent out a memo making it very easy not to talk about Palestine at work. Plus, at work it’s best to focus on work stuff anyway. And it’s important to be earning, Kim needs orthodonture.
It’s easy not to talk about Palestine on social media. First off, your boss might see it! (See above.) Secondly, it’s not really part of your brand. You’re living your best life! You’re a font of positivity! I mean, what are we gonna do, turn our avatars black? Plus, no one really uses social media anymore anyway, you can’t trust it!
It’s easy not to talk about Palestine at dinner. Dinner should be pleasant. Sitting around with the family. Enjoying a meal. Enjoying the company of the people you love. That is pretty great. Why introduce such a divisive, complicated topic?
It's easy not to talk about Palestine at the dog park. That’s for small talk. You wanna talk about the game. You wanna talk about the weather. (Look how clear the skies are!) Plus, you don't really know these people, am I right? Look! Some of the dogs got haircuts! Yeah, talk about that.
It’s easy not to talk about Palestine at church. Church is for Jesus. Plus it’s Christmas time! We gotta do the nativity. No room at the inn. (Worst time to travel.) Born in a manger. (Were there no hospitals?!) That kind of stuff. Doesn't seem like the place to talk about Palestine.
It’s easy not to talk about Palestine when you’re putting the kids to bed. When you’re tucking them in. Reading them a goodnight story. Reassuring them there are no monsters in the closet, or under the bed. Kissing them on the forehead. Closing the door slowly behind you, as you go downstairs to enjoy a moment to yourself, relieved that you get a moment of peace before they wake up in the morning and you get to hug them again.
It's so easy not to talk about Palestine. Every day it gets easier not to talk about Palestine, until eventually we won't have to talk about Palestine at all.
