Issue 10: Dropdowns, Selects, and Momentum
Issue 10
Mineral is Picking Up Steam
2021 is upon us and we’re getting a lot done. From new Figma components, to some pretty impressive usage metrics, we have great stuff to share. Are you excited? We are! So, let’s get into it.
Latest
Dropdowns, Selects and Chips… Oh My!
Dropdown, Select, and Chip (with menu) are now available as master components in Figma. Each is built on top of Menu master components, providing layers of customization and dozens of variations.
Each also includes usage guidelines, with a particular focus on distinguishing between when you should use a Dropdown (enable the user to choose an action from a Menu that opens from a Button) vs. Select (enable the user to choose one or more options from a Menu that opens from an Input, which displays the chosen option).
There’s Been an Explosion!
Don’t worry, it’s the good kind of explosion. We keep track of the number of times the Mineral components are used in Figma, and we’ve hit a couple pretty big milestones.
Since mid-October, they have been used 77,420 times! We also had a single-week record usage of 12,656 for the week of January 16th. These are huge achievements for all of ESD, and we’re really proud of all the designers who have adopted the Mineral components so completely.
Up Next
We’re on the move, and there is lots to do. Here’s what you can expect.
- Lots more components. Right now, we know of needs for Dialog, Switch, Stepper, and FileChooser. Does your team need a specific component? Let us know!
- Outreach! Yeah we said it. In the following months, as Mineral achieves our “baseline” state, we’ll be reaching out more proactively to learn more about how we can help you.
