it's feeling a lot like 2008. and 2017.

So, I started writing online in 2008. I had just discovered Twitter not long before and was deep into the groundswell of the edtech community that was (ha) going to revolutionize education. We were talking blogs and wikis and I was connecting with all of these tech and business dudes and writing about and presenting on edtech stuff. It all seems hilarious now - ed IS tech now. And also education hasn’t changed at all. Around that same time, I also started a blog titled This Mommy Gig and had this really diverse group of women contributing to it, as well as this one marketing dude from Boston.
Fast forward to 2017 when I started blogging again on WordPress. I was writing on my own site and contributing to a book publicity site and also started a shared kid lit review blog.
And now I’m here and I’m at the point (42!) where my life sometimes just seems like cycles of the same ~ and for some reason I just keep deciding that writing online is a good idea. I love Substack as a reader and in my pondering on where to write, I kept gravitating to it as a place that would be the best of both of my other online worlds ~ Goodreads and Instagram. It will let me share all the things somewhere other than just my IG stories. It will let me write longer and deeper shall I choose as well. And also I can offer some special content for paid subscribers that won’t be searchable and findable for the internet masses - I LOVE the option of offering my time and work for those who find value in it.
What’s on my mind? Oh, so so many things. Books and education and financial literacy and dogs and consumerism and minimalism and mindfulness and yoga and finding pants that don’t make me want to cry and making our way in this wild and woolly messy world. And that’s why you’re here, right? To read and listen and ponder and hopefully join in the conversation? Welcome!
