In your shelter is my ruin
Some short spruiks follow.
New album soon. It ends in a crypt is very dear to me. It is a collection of works for five ruined pianos under the custodianship of Ross Bolleter. The release date, 5 June, marks ten years of our collaboration and friendship. I’ll write much more about this before then. In the interim, thank you to Ross, to Eduardo Cossio for the photograph, and to Dan O’Connor for mastering.
You can now pre-order and listen to the final track, “In your shelter is my ruin” (a nominal nod to Valerio Tricoli). Today is Bandcamp Friday, for what it’s worth; if you value putting 15% of the asking price in my pocket rather than toward platform fees, then pre-order now.

Ross has also been improvising prolifically with Eduardo, releasing three albums in as many years, all of which I’ve had a hand in recording and producing. On the RTRFM show Difficult Listening, I interviewed them about their work together, as well as reflecting on the life and work of another Boorloo experimental music legend, Alan Lamb, who passed away recently. You can hear the interview here. It’s my favourite interview I’ve done. The way Ross describes the life-affirming practice of experimental music is sublime:
I have the image that comes to mind of just birds that fly at night in their millions, which we know nothing about.… There’s something about this music which always reminds me of that.… It’s like the night with eyes and wings.
Older news: last month I published Delete the room, an acousmatic work made from videogame audio assets that I described in my last newsletter. I hope you find it compelling.
