Michael Terren

I make music under my birth name and in the band Pale Ribbons Tossed into the Dark. My media are predominantly keyboard instruments, digital synthesis, audio production, sound assets, and performance systems in the experimental tradition.

Some recent projects include It ends in a crypt, an album made with ruined pianos; and Delete the room, an acousmatic work exploring videogame audio aesthetics.

I write on the means of music production, such as DAWs and plug-ins. I recently co-edited the book Creative Tools and the Softwarization of Cultural Production. I teach composition, production, history, and aesthetics at a local university. I also co-host the radio show Difficult Listening.

This is my primary website. Context for my projects is in the newsletter archive. I send emails out rarely—you’re welcome to subscribe. Reach out at michaelterren [at] gmail.

I live in Boorloo/Perth on Whadjuk-Noongar country in so-called western australia, with gratitude for the custodianship and resistance of Noongar people past and present. Sovereignty was never ceded.
