the south rises again + last call for level 2

A color photograph of a woman in a shortsleeved white top with a floral design sitting in profile smoking a cigarette at a table with what looks like the dregs of some kind of coffee drink on it. Her bare legs are crossed beneath the table and she looks sad, or at least ill at ease. There are signs on the wall behind her in both Chinese in English, and the light from the hanging white lamp and other sources off camera create undulations of color and shadow on the wall. It evokes melancholy, lost chances, the tyranny of time, the isolation of human beings, the beauty of sadness.
Just another introvert in need of improv*

Hey y’all (that’s how we say the second-person plural in the SOUTH, deal with it), I’m thrilled to report that the inaugural class of Improv for Introverts SOUTH has been a complete blast, and I couldn’t have asked for a better beginning. But it’s almost over (sniff), so it’s time to rev up a new session: The next iteration of Improv for Introverts SOUTH starts Tuesday June 16. (Bloomsday!)

I’m still worried that South Austinites have gotten in the habit of ignoring Mercury Improv as something north of the river and therefore not relevant to their interests, so if you know some who might be interested, please let them know this bounty is now at their doorstep.

Also: I really hate it when businesses use false scarcity to try to manipulate you into buying something (I’m looking at you, eBay sellers), but folks, facts are facts and the Level Two class that starts June 18th is almost sold out. Carpe diem, a word to the wise, etc., especially since this class only happens once a year or so.

I should also mention an alternative: By now a number of people have elected to retake Improv for Introverts, and as far as I can tell that’s been a positive experience for everyone who’s done it? Every class really does have its own distinct personality, so even though the curriculum is the same, the experience isn’t. Something to ponder, anyway.

I hope to see you in one class or another soon!

Till then,
John

* This picture has nothing to do with improv but my online movie club was watching Wong Kar Wai movies this week and they made me think of this photo. I really like it but unfortunately I don’t know the photographer, and because the internet is now a vast wasteland, a reverse image search just led to a bunch of dead links and AI slop, so I offer it to you in the spirit of post-apocalyptic survivors reverently passing around tattered pages from old magazines.
