Hi friends!
Time got away from me, so this newsletter is going out closer to the concert than it normally would. The concert is in Edmonds, so I'd be a bit shocked if any of you felt like making the trek up there, even if the newsletter were on time. If you're surprised that I'm making the trek up to Edmonds myself, read on, and I'll tell you why.
There are two kinds of people- those of us to whom this is a completely irresistible sight in a shop (especially the beer section of the grocery store), and those of us who would rather claw out their own eyes than buy something that they don't even know what it is yet. I am very solidly in the former camp, which is why I am playing this concert. None of the music on this concert has ever been performed before, I sometimes don't know any of the composers, I have no idea how it's going to go at the first rehearsal, and it's full of surprises until we all show up and tear open the bag and see what's in there. Sometimes it's something amazing! Sometimes it's... a pineapple habanero IPA, and you're going to drink it anyway, just because new experiences are interesting and educational.
Like, one of the pieces has a rainstick in it. I thought there was something wrong with the ventilation system for a solid ten seconds when the rainstick came in. Don't worry, it works in that piece.
We have some fantastic cello and guitar soloists on this program, and it's just plain fun. The composers will be in the audience, and half of them are even in the violin section.
