Hello again, everyone,
I'm currently busy preparing music for an audition. I think it's a long shot, but I'm doing it anyway. It's a video audition, so I'm filming myself, and practicing and trying to get some good takes to put together into a reel to send to some judges; it's due in about a week.
Audition videos are weird. On one hand, you can try as many times as you like to get that perfect rendition of what you're supposed to play. On the other hand, the nature of a performance is that it's an ephemeral moment in time, there and then gone, and only you and your audience shared it. A video changes that a little bit, and a livestream changes that in a slightly different way.
It's nice to have an audience, so I'm going to play it all, over Zoom again, for anyone who wants to listen. As I play it, I'll tell you what it is you're going to be listening to, why it's something that people want to hear in an audition, and what I think about it. This will be a good event for those of you with short attention spans, or who want a little insight into how this all works.
A lot of this is standard violin orchestral audition material- which means that it's a minute or two of music, at most, taken from the violin part of a piece of classical music that would be played by a symphony orchestra. It's a little like the sports highlights reel of the classical music world. It also means that if I don't make the cut this time, none of this effort will feel like it went to waste - I'll have learned some stuff that I'll use again.
This will take place on Sunday, March 7th, at 1pm Pacific time. Reply to this email if you'd like to come, and you'll get a Zoom link.
As always, thanks for listening, and hang in there, friends.
Melinda
