Science & Sensibility

Hi! I'm Meehan. I'm writer in residence in biological sciences at Columbia University and you may already know my work from publications like the London Review of Books, the New York Times, The Atlantic, The Nation, and Best American Science and Nature Writing 2021. If you don't, hello and welcome! My work explores the intersection of science, politics, and culture. These days, I write mostly about the climate crisis.

I've won a few awards, including the Rona Jaffe Foundation Writer's Award and the Climate Narratives Prize, and my work has been supported by a couple grants, including the Silvers Grant for Work in Progress and a Sloan Foundation Book Grant. I'm co-editor of What Future 2018 (Unnamed Press), a founding member of NeuWrite, and was the host of Convergence: a show about the future. A loooong time ago I was reviews editor at The Believer and sometime after that was editor-at-large at Nautilus. Now, I'm working on a nonfiction book about the climate crisis and reproductive justice, Is It OK to Have a Child?, which will be published by Random House in the US and Chatto & Windus in the UK.

For now, I plan to use this newsletter to keep folks updated about my work, from publications to podcasts to live events, and to highlight the work of writers and artists who knock my socks off. The newsletter is free, but if you'd like to support my work you can choose to pay an optional monthly subscription. Totally up to you.

Enjoy!
