Thoughts and Musings: Coincidences

I just got back from a trip to Italy to hike the Cinque Terre with a group of (amazing!) women. There’s only one word for that: Wow!

Then, I tacked on a solo visit to Rome.

In 2001 (I left right after the planes started flying again post-9/11), I spent a semester studying architecture in Rome. It was a truly life-changing experience and I couldn’t wait to see it again.

On Monday morning, I rang the doorbell of the UW Rome Center to see if anyone was at work. The director answered and invited me up, apologizing that she wouldn’t be able to chat with me — it was chaos, new students were arriving! As it turned out out, the incoming architecture students were starting their program that day! The very same program that I arrived for 25 years ago - to the day!

Because coincidences are just so fun… here’s another one: when I booked the Airbnb for my visit, I stumbled upon one that was in the exact same building that I lived in as a student way back then. The apartment turned out to be just above the one I lived in all those years ago. Crazy!

Happy Rome-iversary to me!

🥂🥂

You may be asking yourself how I can afford all this traveling. I actually have no idea, I really don’t make much money. But somehow, it all works out. Perhaps it’s the power of positive expectations? If an opportunity presents itself, I snap it up.

Believe in yourself. Do all the things. No regrets.
