🥏 Tryout update, merch, and more
Hi all,
📰 Tryout update
Thank you to the 96 players who came out for tryouts this week, our largest turnout ever. Coaches were genuinely impressed with the energy and the desire to be there and play.
We now have the daunting task to whittle this down to a manageable roster size. We're working on that this weekend and will have an update to you by Sunday evening (9/13).
A few things that help us as we finalize things:
- Spots are limited, and we really want to make sure we're offering them to kids who genuinely want them and can be there. A reminder that practices will be Tuesday and Friday, with Saturday games from 9/26 through 11/14. Game times aren't set yet, but will likely fall in the 11am - 4pm window and run about 2.5 hours including warmups and the post-game spirit circle.
- If for any reason your player isn't planning to continue with the sport this season (interest, competing commitments, etc.), please email [email protected] and we'll take them out of consideration.
- If your player came to tryouts and hasn't uploaded a photo yet, please do so through the signup portal. With so many kids and new names, a picture really helps us match faces to names.
🎽 Jerseys and merch: help us pick the artwork
With the large group of incoming 6th graders who may be part of Madison Ultimate for up to six seasons (three years, fall and spring), we think it's a good time to offer optional player-owned jerseys (i.e., no more checking jerseys in plus the ability to customize with your name), along with player and family sweatshirts.
Order details will come early next week, but first we need to settle on artwork. We have a few options to choose from: vote here.
We'd like this vote to come from players, not adults. Voting is open to everyone who tried out, including players who might not carry on this season, since we know many of you will be back in the future.
Votes are due by 9pm, tomorrow, Sunday, 9/13.
🏃 Girls/Gx clinic next Saturday (9/19)
DiscNW and Seattle Riot are hosting a clinic for middle school Gx players on Saturday, 9/19, 9am - noon, at Robert Eagle Staff Middle School. This isn't a Madison event, just something worth knowing about if you're a Gx player. All skill levels welcome.
- Sliding-scale fee, register here by 9/18.
- Feel free to use the team WhatsApp group to arrange carpools. Coach Steve is planning to bring 6th grade daughter Emma and is happy to drive others too.
🥏 Frisbees
Players should leave personal discs at home or in their backpack. Coaches will bring discs for practices, and we don't want anyone's stuff getting mixed up or lost. If a player who tried out doesn't have a disc at home to practice with, let us know at practice and we'll get them one.
📅 Parent Zoom meeting
Date TBD, but we'll likely hold an optional (but encouraged) parent meeting next week or the week after. Details to come. In the meantime, we'll keep madisonultimate.org updated with the latest information.
As always, reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
Good times!
