Lunar Prototypes: New Features, Simple Pricing & No Subscriptions
Hi everyone!
After three years of building Lunar Prototypes, I'm excited to announce one of the biggest updates to the platform yet!
Lunar Prototypes has received a major upgrade, with a redesigned website, new customization infrastructure, and several new features. Starting October 15th, we're also introducing a simple pricing model to keep the platform running sustainably.
What's New?
We've moved customization processing to Autodesk's cloud infrastructure, so generating a model no longer depends on my local workstation.
Along with that change, you'll find several new features:
- User Dashboard & Saved Jobs — See your previous customizations and download completed models again for up to 30 days.
- Email Links — Send yourself a link to a completed customization so you can retrieve it later.
- Batch Customization — Generate multiple variations of any design in one batch.
- Dark Mode — A refreshed interface that follows your system preferences, with the option to change it manually.
- Clearer Parameters — New diagrams are being added throughout the catalog to make understanding and adjusting dimensions easier.
Three Free Customizations. No Subscription.
Everyone gets three free customizations to try Lunar Prototypes. This is a one-time allowance, not a monthly subscription.
After that, you can purchase additional customizations in packs of 5 for $5, tax included. Purchased customizations are available for six months after purchase.
A customization only counts when your completed model is successfully delivered. If a job fails, it won't count against your available customizations.
If a completed model doesn't come out as expected, please reach out. I want to know about problems and will do my best to make things right.
Why the Change?
Autodesk's terms have changed since I started Lunar Prototypes, requiring a move to their cloud automation service.
Every customization now has a real compute cost. I've loved offering free customization over the past three years, but keeping it available long-term means finding a way to cover the real costs of running it.
This pricing model helps cover those costs while keeping the service available and maintaining the spirit of sharing useful things with the 3D printing community.
And no subscriptions. Nobody wants a drill subscription.
Built for Reliability
There's been a lot of work behind the scenes, too.
We've recently passed an independent external security vulnerability scan, implemented automated backups, and significantly improved monitoring, recovery, and job-processing safeguards.
The goal is simple: make Lunar Prototypes a reliable tool you can trust when you need to solve a problem.
Give It a Try!
The mission hasn't changed: helping people create exactly the parts they need, without having to learn CAD.
