July 2026 Update

June Recap

June was a slower month for public releases, but Lunar Prototypes still moved forward with a new TPU design, continued customizer improvements, workshop experiments, and routine platform maintenance.

The main public release for the month was the TPU Slip-On Anti-Rattle Bumper, a flexible TPU part designed to reduce vibration, movement, and contact noise between desks, tables, equipment, walls, and other surfaces.

There was also continued experimentation with multi-color magnetic designs, text-based parts, and embedded-hardware concepts in the Workshop. As always, routine security updates were tested and pushed as part of ongoing platform maintenance.

Customizer Access

June was the first full month where the Lunar Prototypes customizer was free to use without requiring a login first.

That change appears to be working as intended. Since the site began anonymously tracking customizer usage in August 2024, more than 1,500 customizations have been run by users. More than 200 of those have now been guest customizations, meaning people were able to generate a custom part without needing CAD software, manual scaling, or an account.

This supports the larger goal of Lunar Prototypes: making practical, customizable 3D printed parts easier to access for people who simply need something to fit their specific situation.

In Progress for July

July is planned as a return to a more active release rhythm, with a focus on publishing designs that are already in the backlog and improving the workflow used to get new designs out more consistently.

  • TPU hinged containers, following a strong response to early social media testing
  • A customizable replacement handle originally designed for a pool brush, but adaptable to other similar use cases
  • Additional text-based designs for both AMS/MMU-style multi-color printing and simple single-extruder color swaps
  • Workflow improvements to make publishing, documentation, and release management more consistent
  • Better versioning practices and a cleaner GitHub process for managing design and platform updates

Looking Ahead

Longer term, Lunar Prototypes will continue focusing on practical customization: useful parts, flexible dimensions, repair-focused designs, and tools that help people solve real fit problems without needing to become CAD users first.

There are also several larger ideas in the background, including possible tool changer design experiments, continued work around multi-material designs, and a potential booth at 3DPrintopia.

Single-extruder printing will remain an important part of the design direction. Multi-material systems are powerful, but for everyday practical parts, a standard single-extruder machine is still one of the most useful tools available.
