Simply Sourdough Course

We’ve got a few places left on our next Sourdough day course, on Saturday 21st June! You will be learning all about sourdough, from feeding and keeping your starter alive through to kneading, shaping, proving and baking your sourdough loaf.

Like all courses at Loaf, it’s a hands on course and in this one you will be making a wheat sourdough and a rye sourdough. We aim to equip you with the skills to confidently make sourdough in your own home.

There will also be a chance to tour Loaf’s in-house community bakery and to stock up on any bread making equipment from our shop after the course.

Your lunch will be sourdough pizza and sides and there are refreshments available throughout the day.

Finally! Our handmade pasta course will return from July!

One of our first-ever evening classes involved making fresh pasta, and then eating the results. Phil took over running it from founder Tom but when Phil left us in 2021 we were a little too preoccupied with pandemic recovery to do a proper handover. The class returned in 2023, when Martha & Molly worked with ex-Loafer Valentina — who you’ll remember brought the authenticity to our Ragu Time pop-up in 2021 — and visited her in Italy where much food was made and consumed.

Val taught us her grandma’s way to make tortellini, filled with spinach and ricotta. Val’s partner Tommaso lent his carbonara recipe made with guanciale from our charcuterie class. Finally, there was puttanesca, a spicy tomato sauce with anchovies, capers and olives. This had been taught on our class from the beginning and Molly was keen to bring back her favourite dish. It’s an affordable sauce that goes a long way but still gives a lot of punchy flavours.

Sadly, we were only able to run a handful of classes before the demands of running the bakery and cookery school became too great and pasta class had to take another hiatus; however it was always our intention to bring handmade fresh pasta back.

Suffice to say, it was not if but when this course would return.

Fast forward to 2025 and after a number of changes to the team, we felt we were in a position to bring pasta class back! Rachel - who teaches our simply sourdough class (see above) has been in the kitchen with Molly & Valentina to master the recipes and techniques and is raring to bring back this extremely popular class.

The first evening class back will be on Wednesday 30th July, running from 6:30-9:30; full details can be found here on our website.

We are expecting this class to fill up fast and are prepared to put on more dates to meet the demand. Sign up to be notified when new dates are released using our alert list.
