Join Loaf and fish expert Lap-fai Lee for a hands-on day of learning the art and science of fish and shellfish preparation and cookery.

Many people are reluctant (or even scared) to undertake fish preparation – when it’s something that has been part of life for centuries. Our workshop takes all of the fear out of fish, and gives you the knowledge, skills and confidence to go home and start enjoying preparing fish in your own kitchen. It’s pretty quick, straight-forward and fun when you know how!

Using the freshest possible fish and shellfish from Birmingham’s excellent wholesale and indoor market, you’ll also be introduced to both Asian and European cookery styles and sit down to eat some incredible dishes throughout the day that you will make. Dishes vary according to season and freshness but you can be sure of a fantastic fishy feast.

The next course takes place on Saturday 26th April, starts promptly at 10.30am and finishes at 4pm. You can get more information and book on our website.

Tomorrow: Birmingham Co-op Meetup in Stirchley Baths

There is a Birmingham Co-op Meetup taking place tomorrow Tuesday 8th April. This is for anyone involved or interested in a co-op to socially meet and benefit from peer support.

The format will be an informal conversation with optional updates. If you are looking to set up a worker or housing co-op, feel free to bring questions along.

We welcome newcomers, those who are co-op curious or want to learn more. No need to participate, you can just observe.

There are usually snacks, tea and coffee, and children are welcome.

Thursday

  • Makali Salad: Crispy aubergine, potato and chickpeas w/lettuce, fresh cucumber & onions. Garlic yoghurt dressing & ciabatta (V)

Friday

  • CURRY: Caribbean spiced vegetable curry w/sourdough (VE)

  • Salt Beef, pickles + mustard on challah

Tue - Fri

  • Sourdough Pizza: Charred corn, sun dried tomato, red onion & chipotle, white cream base, goats cheese & mozzarella (V)

Wed - Fri

  • Ham and cheese croissant

  • Vegetarian croissant (V)

Wed – Sat:

  • Sausage rolls

  • Vegetable rolls (V)

Lunches are made fresh weekdays from 12 noon.

  • Baking with Heritage Grains Sold out at the moment. More dates will be released soon.

  • Wholegrain Baking with Tom Baker: Sat 31th May, Sat 6th September

Haseen’s evening classes:

  • Thaali: More dates will be released soon.

Lap’s all-day classes:

  • Sausage & Charcuterie: More dates will be released soon.

  • Seafood Masterclass: Sat 26th April

Lap’s evening classes:

  • Knife Skills: Tues 13th May

We run classes throughout the year (except August and December) and schedule new dates as soon as possible. You can sign up to alert lists for specific classes here.

If you think of gifting one class but you are not sure which one would be preferred you could buy a gift voucher instead.

Our vouchers can be purchased in any value you like for redemption against future bookings. Vouchers purchased online will give you a downloadable pdf which can be emailed to the recipient directly, or to you for printing and giving to them by hand. Alternatively you can come to us and buy vouchers in the shop.
