Bread!

Bread: Back to Basics

Our course ‘Bread: Back to Basics’ is a day-long bread experience. In a world where real bread is so hard to come by, this course will equip you to make consistently good, wholesome bread at home. This hands-on course takes bread back to its essential ingredients – flour, water, salt and yeast – and teaches you a great repertoire of beautiful breads based on these basic building blocks.

Good bread is best made slowly, so throughout the course you’ll be introduced to techniques for building superior flavour, texture, nutrition, and keeping quality into your bread using the best ingredient around: time.

This is a hands on course, and Loaf will share tips and techniques throughout the day. You’ll learn everything from which ingredients and equipment to use, and arm you with all the tools and confidence to bake at home. There’ll be plenty to take home at the end of the day to share (or keep to yourself!)

The next course takes place on Saturday 12th April, starts promptly at 9.30am and finishes around 4pm.

Come and support our future home!

Stirchley Co-operative Development (SCD) and ARTEFACT warmly invite you to a ceilidh and dance — featuring The Pied Piper Band, Edinburgh’s all-trans, fashion-forward ceilidh band — for a night at The Old Print Works in Balsall Heath.

For those of you who don’t know, this is the first of our Construction Parties — and they want to make it a big one. All the money raised will go toward communal spaces like laundries, gardens, and halls.

They’ve got some exciting things lined up:

📯 The Pied Piper Band will be leading through the ceilidh dances
🍻 Drinks will be available all night
🪩 A selection of DJs will keep the party going long after the ceilidh wraps up (dancing till late!)
🫶 And of course, many opportunities to support our beloved SCD — so come ready to celebrate and show some love!

Details:

🗓️ 26th April
🏫 Old Print Works, Balsall Heath
🎟️ Solidarity tickets: £8 / £15 / £20

Doors open at 7pm

If you’ve been craving some joy, community, and a chance to let loose — this is it.

All are welcome.
