Ramen dish

Learn how to make Ramen/Noodles on our evening cookery course with tutor Lap-fai Lee at Loaf.

Join Loaf and expert cookery tutor Lap-fai Lee to learn how to make alkali noodles from scratch and use them in two classic Asian noodle dishes; Chinese dandanmian and Japanese ramen.

Dandanmian is a Sichuanese street-food staple, quick and easy to prepare. The dish is traditionally made with beef mince, chillies, Sichuan pepper and sesame paste. The combination of numbing and spicy ma-la flavours epitomises Sichuan cuisine and is highly addictive.

Tonkotsu ramen is the slow simmered pork bone broth originating in the south of Japan and is now beloved globally. We’ll make all the usual accompaniments, the braised pork belly, marinated egg and black garlic oil. Greater than the sum of its parts, tonkotsu is not just a great noodle dish but one of the World’s great dishes.

Birmingham Bike Foundry can take you on an adventure and prepare you for more!

Are you looking to take your cycling skills into the great outdoors and embark on multi-day trips? Want to understand how to route plan and pack for such an adventure, and deal with difficult roadside repairs miles from the nearest bike shop? All of this and more will be covered on Birmingham Bike Foundry’s Adventure Riding course.

The course which takes place from the 24-25th May will cover an entire weekend with three lessons in classroom, roadside and campsite settings, and the price includes food, pitch costs, and travel to Derbyshire for a the led ride section. You will be staying at a beautiful spot in rural Belper, which has toilet facilities but is otherwise a wild camping experience.

We think that sounds lovely and wanted to share that with the bike lovers under our customers.

Finally! This Saturday! Ceilidh co-op fundraiser

Stirchley Co-operative Development (SCD) and ARTEFACT will run the first of our Construction Parties. All the money raised will go toward communal spaces like laundries, gardens, and halls.

Details:

📯 The Pied Piper Band will be leading through the ceilidh dances
🍻 Drinks will be available all night
🪩 A selection of DJs will keep the party going long after the ceilidh wraps up (dancing till late!)
🫶 And of course, many opportunities to support our beloved SCD — so come ready to celebrate and show some love!

Lunches are made fresh weekdays from 12 noon.

We run classes throughout the year (except August and December) and schedule new dates as soon as possible. You can sign up to alert lists for specific classes here.

If you think of gifting one class but you are not sure which one would be preferred you could buy a gift voucher instead.

Our vouchers can be purchased in any value you like for redemption against future bookings. Vouchers purchased online will give you a downloadable pdf which can be emailed to the recipient directly, or to you for printing and giving to them by hand. Alternatively you can come to us and buy vouchers in the shop.
