This is the weekly-ish bulletin from Loaf in Stirchley, with our specials, lunches and cookery school classes.

We’ll have plenty on the shelves all week, with lunches served from noon on weekdays.

Loaf will be open as usual on Eastern

HXBs

Don’t forget to pre-order your Hot Cross Buns in advance this week if you want to be save to get some. We bake as many as possible, but the last years showed they still sell out quickly.

And you probably know this already, but Hot Cross Buns should actually be eaten from Eastern and not in the weeks before - that’s why we decided to bake more after Eastern. So if you can’t get enough of them (or just like sticking to the rules), you can still enjoy them the week after Eastern (until the end of next week, Saturday 26th April)! Pre-orders for that week will go online as usual from Saturday afternoon.

Dumplings

Learn during one of our evening classes how to make Dumplings with our tutor Lap-fai Lee

You will be making dumplings from scratch and then boiling, deep frying or pan frying them. Lap will tutor you through making the dough and preparing vegetarian and pork dumplings. You’ll also make crispy, deep fried dim sum style wontons (pork & prawn) and Sichuan wontons (lamb).

Like all Loaf courses it’s very hands-on and throughout the evening we’ll be tasting the fruits of our labour, you certainly won’t go home hungry!

You’ll feel right at home at Loaf, and everything you learn will set you up for recreating at home with confidence!

Thank you from the Foodbank

Christine from the Volunteer Team B30 and South Birmingham Foodbank sent us a lovely email to thank us and our customers for our bread donations in February. Our continued support for their work in the local community really means a lot to them and their customers and is one of the reasons why all of our team work at Loaf.

Little reminder to get your ticket for the ceilidh co-op foundraiser

Stirchley Co-operative Development (SCD) and ARTEFACT warmly invite you to the first of our Construction Parties — and they want to make it a big one. All the money raised will go toward communal spaces like laundries, gardens, and halls.

Details:

📯 The Pied Piper Band will be leading through the ceilidh dances
🍻 Drinks will be available all night
🪩 A selection of DJs will keep the party going long after the ceilidh wraps up (dancing till late!)
🫶 And of course, many opportunities to support our beloved SCD — so come ready to celebrate and show some love!

  • Curry: Rajma Masala curry w/ sourdough (Ve) optional with butter (V)

  • Salt Beef /w pickles + mustard on challah

Tue - Fri

  • Sourdough Garlic bread pizza w/ cherry toms, onion & mozzarella (V)

Wed - Fri

  • Ham and cheese croissant

  • Vegetarian croissant (V)

Wed – Sat:

  • Sausage rolls

  • Vegetable rolls (V)

Lunches are made fresh weekdays from 12 noon.

  • Baking with Heritage Grains Sold out at the moment. More dates will be released soon.

Lap’s all-day classes:

We run classes throughout the year (except August and December) and schedule new dates as soon as possible. You can sign up to alert lists for specific classes here.

If you think of gifting one class but you are not sure which one would be preferred you could buy a gift voucher instead.

Our vouchers can be purchased in any value you like for redemption against future bookings. Vouchers purchased online will give you a downloadable pdf which can be emailed to the recipient directly, or to you for printing and giving to them by hand. Alternatively you can come to us and buy vouchers in the shop.
