SCD Topping-out Ceremony

Our new premises moved a step closer to becoming reality with the Stirchley Cooperative Development hosting a ‘topping-out’ ceremony on 28th February to mark the building reaching its full height. Neil and Dorit got to have a look around Loaf’s new space, which we’re hoping to move in to in the Autumn! We are very excited :)

Tom Baker at Culture Club in Can Eat

Birmingham based WeChef hosts food and drink events across the Midlands with a focus on creativity, sharing knowledge and having fun! One of these events is the monthly food meet with guest speakers who talk about fermenting, brining and preserving. It’s called Culture Club and hosted by Can Eat just down the road.

This week Loaf founder Tom Baker will be their guest speaker. You can book tickets for the event on Thursday evening here.

Next month the topic is Kombucha.

What we will cook in the Thaali course

Thaali Course with Haseen at Loaf

Haseen has been bringing fantastic street food from Kerala in the south west of India to the streets of Birmingham for several years now. Starting from a home-cafe in Kings Heath, to guest appearances at markets and takeovers of cafes and pub restaurants, Pop Up Dosa is an integral part of the grassroots food landscape in Birmingham, and for good reason.

Thaali is a meal made up of a selection of vegetarian dishes served on a platter. In Kerala it is known as Sadhya (banquet), traditionally served on a banana leaf, often in large quantities; for weddings and other special festivals and celebrations.

The next class with Haseem at Loaf is scheduled for Wednesday 19th March and you can look up more details here. It’s a very hands-on workshop and we will be feasting on all the dishes we make family style, so arrive hungry if you decide to book the class!
