This is the weekly newsletter from Loaf in Stirchley, keeping you abreast of our bakery and cookery school, and other news we think you might be interested in.
This week it’s all ‘breadcrumbs’ with morsels of news from Loaf and across Stirchley.
We’ll have plenty of bread and pastries on the shelves all day, with lunches served from noon on weekdays.
Scroll down for this week’s lunch menu, cookery school vacancies and community news.
Our opening hours are:
Wednesday: 12-4
Thursday: 12-6
Friday: 12-6
Saturday: 8-1
🥖 Rach is on the sweets shift this week and is bringing cheesecake back! Not seen since before the pandemic, look for a vanilla cheesecake on Friday, followed by a blueberry and raspberry cheesecake on Saturday.
🥖 She’s also making a ‘brookie’ — brownie top, cookie bottom — with peanut butter and raspberries, not to mention a carrot cake loaf. Yum!
🥖 Wicked Leeks magazine interviewed us for their feature on keeping real bread affordable, with a focus on our £1 Stirchley Loaf.
🥖 Quarter Horse Coffee has made a delivery. Look for Palomino Filter Blend, Media Luna (Colombia), Volcán (Colombia) and La Pastora (Costa Rica) beans in their lovely new packaging.
🥖 Congrats to Ben, who occasionally moonlights in our bakery when he’s not busy at the Bike Foundry, for completing the long-distance Atlas Mountain bike race through Morocco. He finished in six days and 10 hours, coming in 59th. Impressive! Pics here.
🥖 The second episode of the Art and Ecology podcast from Grand Union is out, looking at Land Justice and the struggle for social, racial, and climate justice across the world.
🥖 Speaking of podcasts, Stirchley Open Cinema has started one, complementing the screenings at Stirchley Baths.
🥖 Our friends at Verbena have launched their autumn menu and are taking Christmas bookings.
🥖 The Stirchley Skull Walk is back for a third Halloween. Join art-walkers Walkspace for a spooky stroll around the backstreets of B30.
🥖 Stirchley Snowflake is making a quilt of snow decorated by the people who live and work in Stirchley. You can pick up a pack of cloth and pens to make your own contribution from the Loaf counter while stocks last.
🥖 The autumn Cotteridge Park newsletter is out.
Lunches are made fresh weekdays for 12 noon.
Our menu for the week — with ingredients and allergens — is on the website.
