it’s Dorit again with the Loaf newsletter sharing what we are up to this week, some local news and calls for support from SCD and other communities in Birmingham.

News from SCD

There are sadly no good news from Stirchley Co-operative Development. GSA rejected last Friday the most recent offer (of many) to purchase the building and bring it into community ownership. The worker co-ops, including us from Loaf are still negotiating with GSA our leases independently while the people behind Stirchley Co-operative Development are forced to keep fighting for their homes and our businesses to give us all a secure, viable and long-term place in Stirchley to exist. That is why we are reaching out to you with a call that you come out this Thursday to show your support for SCD.

With GSA’s rejection there are now concerns that they don’t mean to sell, but plan to keep the building themselves and fill it with their own residents. This is privatising a community asset that was meant to help in revitalizing our high street - and one which Stirchley residents have poured tens of thousands of hours of free labour into. It was where many people, our friends, their and our business and people of our larger community were looking to start the next steps of their lives.

The people behind SCD are working to do everything they can to save this project and want to get people out in front of the development to show that they have momentum behind them and that their community won’t just forget.

Please join us at the Stirchley Triangle at 6pm this Thursday, and help us save SCD! (If you're pressed for time we will do a photo op at 6:30 📸)

Help to save the Warehouse

You might already have heard about the call for help from The Warehouse in Digbeth which is threatened by demolition. The Warehouse is 5 decades running and an important space for a wider ecosystem of organisations, activists, artists, independent businesses, community groups and social movements working towards a more just and sustainable Birmingham. The building is Birmingham Friends of the Earth’s environmental community and home to BRIG (Birmingham Race Impact Group) Cafe, Voce Books, Sprocket Cycles, Vivid Projects, BrumRadio. It is an intensively used community meeting space (including Stirchley Co-operative Development!), an office space and ground to Digbeth Community Garden.

Everyone who cares about the community of Birmingham, the city’s environmental and social movement, heritage or Digbeth please have a look at their website to learn about how you can help and respond to the consultation, which is open till 28 August 2026.

📯📯 Stirchley’s answer to the Olympics - The Woodland Games will return on Saturday 12th September! 📯📯

Johnny and Dale from Hipkiss and Graney who are also members of Artefact reworked the idea of the Woodland Games. They will be working with the people from the Fruit Nut Village and Birmingham Brewing Company. Everyone can sign up as a team to then spending a few weeks building their giant ecological inspired costume and join the games.

The big game this year is called The Great Rea Run and is a hectic spree of Fruit & Nut Village orchards within Stirchley along the beautiful River Rea, which is made accessible because of the work of the Friends of Rea Valley Stirchley.

Another way to take part in the day is to nominate your Stirchley Tree of the Year! Send them a photo of your favourite tree and if you’d like a short description of why you like it and they will award the tree at this years games with a special ceremony! Personally I’ve got a couple of trees I really like in that area, so I might need to think about that a bit longer before sending my choice over.

🔸 Sandwich with spiced paneer, raita, salad + coriander (V) optional with spiced tofu (VE)

➡️ Click HERE to pre-order bread and buns for Wednesday till Saturday. If you don’t want to pre-order that’s alright, we always have more to sell, but we try not to let anything go to waste, so pre-orders are very helpful.

➡️ Cut-off time for all pre-orders is 11am on the day before pick up!
