Track #6: 09/11/2026

Damn y'all, in this past week I've gone to Asheville, Charlotte, and Greensboro for shows. I'm exhausted. For those of you who appreciate a briefer newsletter, you're in luck. For those of you who prefer some longer ramblings - sorry.

Missed Connections:

Albums that came out earlier in the year, but I didn't hear 'em in time to put them on a playlist.

Theatre - Incarnate [Shoegaze/Post-Punk]

If you like shoegaze, grunge, post-punk, and the general sound of 90's alternative, this'll be a tasty one for ya. Fans of Fontaines D.C. will likely enjoy this immensely. The short debut EP has left me hungry for more from this Limerick group. Thanks for the tip, Morgan!

August 2026 Monthly Report Playlist:

Stream the August 2026 Monthly Report playlist on Buy Music Club while you read along and don't forget to check out my previous monthly reports if you've missed 'em.

This playlist ended up heavy on the post-punk and art punkier side of things, but there's also some folk & metal as usual.

Jodi Jones - American Dream [Folk/Country]

This fun debut record would likely make Woodie Guthrie proud yet sad because what he was singin' about and what Jodi's singin' about show that things really haven't changed all that much in a century.

Kiwi Jr. - Blowin' Up [Indie Rock/Power Pop]

A fun indie rock record that kinda sounds like what would have happened if The Modern Lovers were an Elephant 6 band. Pure Michigan, in particular, is a fun bubblegum bop.

Sweeping Promises - You Say I Romanticize [Post-Punk]

The album cover is super-80's and so is the music. I kinda get some garage-y, modern Mission of Burma vibes from this one.

BlueLiquid - S/T [Indie Rock]

The debut from this Beijing trio finds them playing around with all sorts of alternative rock influences. You can hear some grunge, some shoegaze, some post-punk, some garage rock, some math-y bits, etc. It's a fun listen!

Faerie Ring - S/T [Hard Rock]

Guitarmonies and heavy riffs galore, brought to you from the same label that introduced Castle Rat to the world.

RIBS - Cold Ribs [Experimental Rock]

Post-punk grooves and psychedelic explorations topped with shouted word vocals, creating a sound that feels both urgent and patient at the same time.

Ruth in the Bardo - You're Not Missing the Mark, You're Missing the Point [Art Rock]

This record has really captured my attention and is quickly becoming a favorite of the year. Every track sounds different, but fits cohesively in this album. The songs are so intensely expressive in a way that feels like the band is fighting with their instruments. It's beautiful, pained, intense, and captivating. The intensity of the drumming on this record is a particular stand-out, contrasting well with the pensive guitarwork and emotive vocals.

RUEN - The Tragedy of the Commons [Anarcho-Punk]

Crustier than the bread in a Bifana sandwich, this Portuguese group injects a ton of folky instrumentation into their apocalyptic punk. This record lives somewhere on the line between Panopticon and Fall of Efrafa.

RUENThe Tragedy of the Commons

Chelsea Wolfe - The Dark [Gothic Pop Rock]

Wolfe's voice as is enchanting and brooding as ever on this beautiful, dark, pop rock record.

Besvärjelsen - Till Glömskan Ad Oblivionem [Doomrock]

If you like doom metal, stoner rock, etc. you'll probably like this one. Solid riffs, guitarmonies, and grooves from this Stockholm-based quintet.

maya ongaku - Nothing Space Music [Ambient/Psychedelic/Experimental]

This Fujisawa-based band creates thoughtful soundscapes that flow smoothly in a realm of ambient psychedelic rock and folk pop. Meditative chill-out music.

Saul Williams - Leap Life [Experimental Hip-Hop]

Saul William's latest effort is expansive. It's not hip-hop, but hip-hop is certainly built into the foundation, decorated with aspects of spiritual jazz, electronica, and spoken word that, combined, provide a revelatory hum. Those who have been following these playlists from the start of the year will likely recognize Moor Mother's appearance on the track I selected for the playlist, "Conspiracy."

Let's Make A Mixtape Podcast

Sorry y'all, season 3 is going on the backburner for a bit longer.

Bite Back!

Thanks for making it this far. I'd love feedback if you have any, please let me know what you think! What would you like to see more of? Less of? What albums did you love so far this year that I've totally missed? What albums are you looking forward to? What shows are you looking forward to?

Until next month. Keep those ears open, keep those minds open, and keep those borders open.
