Misc shop update
Hello!
My schedule has gotten a bit wonky as I finish work for the November show at Haven. We’ve had a brutal bout of heat here over the last few weeks, which made my outdoor sculpting zone a pretty miserable prospect during daylight hours. As a result, work slowed to a crawl at times. Now that the temperature is a bit more reasonable and the air isn’t drying out my clay almost faster than I can sculpt, I’m feeling optimistic.
But I did get some things done! And they will be in the shop on Friday, 9/25 at noon Pacific. I have two of these boxes, inspired by the way harbor seals bask in their banana pose:

I really enjoy making the bladderwrack there. I also have a guardian planter featuring another shoreline staple in the form of barnacles:

I’ve got two prehistoric mugs this time. First a fossil:
(If you miss this one, don’t worry: I’ve got four or five fossil mugs in the next update). Next, I tried out something new on a mug this time, experimenting with carving a background of paleozoic crinoids under some sculpted nautiloids:
And lastly for now, I’ve made a pond vessel with lilypads, frog, and school of minnows.
With just few weeks left on the sculpting clock, I’m working on getting the last pieces for this Haven show into the kiln. I recently finished sculpting this one, inspired by snapping turtles, which featured heavily in my childhood fears as a kid who spent a lot of time in creeks.

That’s all I’ve got for now! Another small shop update with the rest of the fossil mugs (plus hopefully a couple other pieces) should be coming along pretty soon.
Thanks!
