Openhaus, Performance and Dig Archive

Lee Tusman newsletter

Hi, a short monthly email from me with info on my OpenHaus and performance Thursday, and an online project I released this month.

Openhaus and Performance this Thursday in Berlin

I'm an artist-in-resident at ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics in Moabit, Berlin, Germany. This Thursday is our Openhaus from 7pm until 11pm or so. I'll be performing a modular synth set as ExquisiteCorp at 8:30pm.

I'll be showing a version of Hyphenated, the interview work created based on a conversation with my mother on our name, and an abstract video work I recorded for video modular synth and custom software I created in residence at Signal Culture a couple years ago. I'll also show work I presented at the Algorithmic Pattern Salon I presented in the UK last weekend.

Video of my talk at Algorithmic Pattern Salon

The Algorithmic Pattern Salon (aka ALPACA) was really fun. I met a number of colleagues I'd only spoken to online previously (Hi ) and made new friends. This is why I love conferences. And I especially love a conference that includes workshops and performances.

Here is my talk on Encoding and Experimenting with Vernacular Quilt Patterns.

➘Dig Archive

Earlier this month I released ➘Dig Archive, an archived collection of digitized media art, text, zines, videos, and other saved works from around the net, and beyond.

I've uploaded almost 100 items including videos, manuals, media art, interviews and more - these are items that have disappeared from the internet that I want to hold onto, or works that are released that I want to spread more widely to friends and students.

I don't have any tracking so I don't know how many people are accessing Dig Archive but I've heard from a handful of folks already interested in it even before I've soft-launched. If you have any feedback, suggestions, or feature requests, let me know! I'm thinking I may add an RSS feed as I add more items each week.

The site was designed to be lower impact and accessible on slower or ancient computers and phones. Check it out and see how I did. Incidentally, the site is built on a modified version of my static website building software and the code is open source licensed

More

I have a work in the online show Love.exe.

That work will also be presented at ZK/U.

Other work gets documented here:

  • My now page
  • My log page
  • RSS Feed for all of my work

Next

Going into the fall I'm excited about finishing up some late podcast episodes, working on a book outline for the podcast, polishing on the L5 coding library to get it ready for testing, and making music. I'm sure other projects will crop up as well. I'm enjoying my time here in Berlin quite a lot.

Mit herzlichen Grüßen, Lee
