Lee Tusman newsletter

Hi folks, This is my monthly email of what I'm working on, which currently revolve around creative coding workshops, talks on L5, the Permacomputing NYC meetup, and performing experimental music.

Events in Philly, NYC, North Carolina and Berlin this month

Creative coding for the Permacomputing Age a code jam and introduction to creative coding with L5

I am very busy with the L5 creative coding library. My apologies to any friends sick of hearing about it :) I co-wrote some academic papers on the library; there are people contributing code and documentation; and we are participating in GSoC this summer with a paid fellow who will work with me. I spoke online at CCFest giving a workshop in March. I also gave a talk and a workshop at Algorithmic Art Assembly, and wrote a piece for their zine. I really enjoyed visiting Grey Area in San Francisco and connecting with new and old friends.

Philadelphia: I am leading a (free) workshop this Friday April 10 at the Electronic Faire at Temple University's Charles Library. It will be a workshop on computational art with L5, with a focus on constrained (tweetcart, 1-liners, 'haiku programs') creating digital work for an online zine.

Berlin: I will be visiting April 16 - 21 this month. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with friends there. I'm speaking on Sunday 19 April, at 1600 at xHain hack and makespace on L5: A Creative Coding Response to Permacomputing. More info. I won't be in person at the LibreGraphics Meeting 2026 in Nuremberg, but L5 will be represented there. Get in touch to hang out together in Berlin when I'm there!

North Carolina: I'm performing a live score for a piece with Ivana Larrosa at Black Mountain College Museum's ReHappening Festival Saturday April 25, at the historic campus of Black Mountain College.

Permacomputing NYC meetups

Permacomputing NYC April 14 6pm Jailbreaking Old Devices with Sam Heckle - stamps of butterflies, top hats, old computer, hammer and scissor, and a whale

I started organizing these a couple months ago. We had 50 people come last month. Our next meeting is Tuesday April 14, 6pm - 8:30pm at Ridgewood Commons. We have a website and email list for the group. At the next meetup Sam Heckle will present a workshop on Jailbreaking devices, to resist planned obsolescence of these computing devices.

Music

I put up an album of No-Input Mixing Board music recorded at ZK/U residency in the fall, with two friends I met through the residency. Vocals: ella prokkola, clarinet and vocals: siiri hänninen, no-input mixing board, tape, vocals, pedals: lee tusman. "Roughly mastered" by Ian Kristof at Echo Coordinate. It was also included in the last mix for Fractal Meat on a Spongy Bone on NTS Radio.

I have more recordings to get online, and have been working on music in the studio at Flux Factory. I wanna play more shows this summer, and I'm looking for a bass clarinet or bassoon to play with my modular synth! If I don't find one, I may have to go another direction.

Europe in summer

I'll be in Berlin this summer and will visit some other cities/countries. I'm looking for a place to stay in June. I'll be at ZK/U art residency again in July.

Add me to your email lists. Meet me in person for a park hang or studio visit. Let's jam some weird music. Invite me to your events. Or just say hello. You can always just hit reply and email me back!
