Hit and Miss #476: Three mid-October tidbits
Hello!!
A lot on the go this weekend, so will keep it brief. Highlights from this week:
- T and I voted (early) in the municipal election! It was painless and fun, chatting with the poll workers and doing our part to make municipal turnout numbers a little less awful. If you’re in Ottawa but didn’t vote early, election day is October 26. (One worker asked about the origins of my family name, on which I had much to say thanks to some recent family research!)
- Started reading Dan Davies’s The Unaccountability Machine, and expect I’ll have more (good!) things to say.
- Wandering the city on a recent evening, I wanted some music, but really couldn’t pin a genre or artist I wanted. So, taking to heart the advice of folks that the new Siri AI is much improved, I tried, “hey Siri, play me something interesting on Apple Music”. After a noticeable enough delay, I got a response very much in line with John Gruber’s observation that Siri AI seems a bit slow and still missing the mark at times (though much less often than it used to): “Interesting” by Sara Landry. It was fine, but hardly what I was going for.
Have a stack of good links, but will save those for next week, as I expect work will reduce my normal reading pace. All the best for the week ahead!
Lucas
