Hit and Miss #442: February done so soon
Hello!
Due to some exciting life circumstances, I’ll probably be reading less online for the next few weeks. How that’ll affect this newsletter, it’s still too early to say, but I expect some shorter issues.
- I didn’t write about the Tumbler Ridge shooting when it happened. I used to feel pressure to comment on all the significant ongoing events, but I don’t know what that adds to the often extensive coverage they already receive—not to mention the challenges of deciding what’s “significant enough”, etc etc. Nick Heer wrote about the shooting recently, gathering longer reflective pieces while adding an interesting point of his own, cautioning those who are quick to point to a trail of digital evidence that often only makes sense in hindsight.
- Mandy Brown reflects on the pressure for specialization under capitalism, and how it’s manifesting in tech with the adoption of LLMs.
- The beauty of a good URL scheme.
In non-link reading news, I’ve been enjoying Breaking Bread with the Dead by Alan Jacobs. More to come on that in future weeks, but I can recommend it already.
All the best for the week ahead!
Lucas
