This song is a remix of a cover that doesn't technically exist. The cover doesn't exist, that is. The remix is very much in existence and is, if I may say so myself, a fricking jam.

And yeah, it's Coldplay. Listen, I had my birthday and I was nostalgic, okay?

Ten years ago, I was starting to explore recording via garageband, and I did a cover of The Scientist with a glockenspiel, a floor tom, and about twelve layered vocals. Standard Lauren fare, really. I'd link the 2011 version here, but hoooooo it is not good. I was straight-up out of tune for large chunks of that recording, and not in a cute stylistic way. My real gift to you today is that I will not be inflicting that upon you.

ANYWAYS, last week, post-birthday emotional hangover, I was laying around and thinking, what if I redid this old cover as an homage to my past self? I have better equipment, I sing better, etc etc. So I'm sitting there in front of my microphone and singing some Coldplay. Harmonies, vibe sounds, a beat that I was starting to get really into.

There was just one problem..... the vocals.... they weren't..... good.... I didn't..... like them.....

So I re-recorded the best line in the song, slapped some autotune on it, watched a video about sampling and learned how to do some stuff in Logic. And then I did it.

Here, then, are the fruits of my learning and growing. Enjoy. I'm one step closer to an entire Lo-Fi Beats To Study To album. Maybe I'll cover Michelle Branch next. All the world's an oyster and we are merely oyster shuckers.
