smack in the middle (of summer)
How is it that June 20 feels like the cusp of summer, and by July 3 we're smack in the middle?? I already feel panicked that I’ve wasted it. I'm not good at summer. I'm good at meeting deadlines, making to-do lists, checking things off! (R teases me about how much I love to check things off.)
I started drafting a big ol summer to-do list, but it got very must-do very quickly. That's not what I need. I need to just be.
Eat watermelon.
Go to the movies.
Go to Denman. Pick blackberries and make a cobbler. Swim in the lake.
There. That's plenty.

Speaking of watermelon: Cut it into cubes, quick freeze for 30-40 minutes, sprinkle with sea salt and chili powder (optional). THE BEST.
On my list of movies: Annie Baker's Janet Planet, Alex Thompson + Kelly O'Sullivan's Ghostlight, Catherine Breillat's Last Summer.
This month in tacos: I was in San Francisco for a screening of Euphoric, a short film I produced,* and I had GREAT TACOS at Chuy's Fiestas on Folsom. Let it not be said (have I said?) that SF is not a taco town. Chuy's Fiestas is an unassuming little spot, you would walk right past, but they've got a breezy secret patio in the back, the food is festively served on big earthenware plates, and both the quesabirria and the cochinita pibil are bonkers good. Two tacos per person is plennnty of food! J and I snuck out at under $20 each including agua mineral + tip.
*Weird way to work that in. Next time I'll mention beforehand.
This month in fashion: I've been living in a pair of baggy cotton "parachute pants" from Uniqlo (now sold out, sadly, but here's a pic). I'm embracing PLEATS, you guys. And, breaking news, flip-flops are back. I haven't seen them irl on the east side yet, but they were all over the runway at fashion week. I think I might get a pair.
xoxo,
Laramie
As always, here’s your trusty taco map.
