What's up with you guys?
I had a spectacular September. Best month of the last 12 for sure. I'm scared now that I've typed those words. I don't want to jinx October 😁
We got some great feedback on Love the Blue, which has launched me into yet another rewrite. I feel like a broken record saying that every month, another rewrite, but if this newsletter is your window into the writing/screenwriting process... There it is. There's the process.
I've also started researching a new project, though maybe I shouldn't mention that yet. What's the rule about talking about something before you write it? Does it ruin the thing? Does it help to "workshop" it?
Should I only discuss with select people who I know will ask smart questions but not squash my squirming larva of an idea?? --is probably the correct answer.
And. I landed a script supervising gig on a new web series that shoots for three weeks starting Monday. I really like the writer/director/star,
Jessie Kahnweiler. Really like the crew. Really like the SCRIPTS. (Which is rare. I am a snob.)
I freaked out when Jessie sent us her list of movies to watch for inspiration: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Election, Trainspotting, Blue Valentine, Fish Tank, City of God. These are some of my all-time favorite movies.

Pickles! I made pickles!
This recipe comes from my friend Rob's mom. It's so good and so easy I've made em twice already. I even brought a jar as a gift to a birthday party, and received high praise from the birthday girl (a known pickle connoisseur).
Take a pint jar and hold the slicer thingy* over the opening & slice cucumbers into it, about 1/4 to halfway, then slice some red onion into it, then cukes & more onion -- no measurements
Add a tablespoon of sugar & about a half tsp of salt
pour apple cider vinegar up to halfway, then add ice water to the top.
put the lid on it, give it a shake & put it in the fridge.
*I don't have a thingy, I just sliced as thin as I could and layered as directed.

This month in cocktails: At the tail end of our trip to B.C., we had a spectacular lunch and two of the weirdest wonderfullest cocktails, at
Wolf In The Fog in
Tofino. Jamie's Tears (irish whiskey, pineau des chartentes, WITF oaked bitters, tofino salt water), which sounds scary but was subtle and lovely, and the Cedar Sour (cedar infused rye, lemon, thyme, egg white), which tasted a litttle like Pine Sol but in a good way? I'm already scheming to go back and try the Angler, which features smoked salmon infused vodka.
This month in tacos: Should you find yourself in Hollywood in search of good tacos—and perhaps a good cocktail—I recommend
Loteria Grill. Last week I had the Tacos Los Tres Cochinitos (Three Little Pigs) special which involved carnitas, crispy bacon, and crispy pork rinds.
Yup. The Carne Arrachera is also delish. And the Jalepeno Margarita is 👌
This month in pants: Just bought
these at my
fave local resale shop, and they are miraculous. I've worn them four days in a row.
