the garden gate, vol. 17 🌿

a quick word from the gardener
Today I’m wrestling with something at work.
It’s interpersonal. Messy.
And I notice how quickly I forget about God in the middle of it.
Like He only cares about my spirit—
not my mind or my emotions.
Like what’s happening in my heart and mind doesn’t really touch my spirit.
I’m writing this in the evening, when everything feels a little darker, a little more dramatic.
So here, now—
I gently turn my attention.
I look toward the cross,
when I start to doubt His devotion.
I look toward the empty tomb,
when I lose hope for the healing of my heart or this situation.
Yahweh, my friend,
once again I give everyone and everything to You.

today’s invitation
Quit a book.
I know this sits a little sideways next to my earlier invitation to pick one up. But I’m starting to wonder if learning to quit books might be just as important as learning to read them.
Maybe you have one open right now that isn’t quite holding your interest. I’d ask, with gentleness, are you reading it because you want to or because you feel like you should?
And if you set it down—what happens then?
Who are you letting down?
There’s no score to tally up.
Sunk cost is a fallacy.
My invitation to you is to put it down with joy.
Find something that actually draws you, delights you, makes you feel more alive.
Life is too short.
There are too many amazing books out there.
Quit the book with my blessing! ☺️💚
