the garden gate, vol. 12 🌿

a quick word from the gardener

Lately I’ve been looking back — on the entire stretch of my motherhood and also just on this past week. And I’m starting to see that memory is its own kind of battleground. Not a fight with the past, but a subtle choosing in the present: what I let rise to the surface, what I focus on and let expand.

Whenever I make a photobook, or trace through my little delight lists, something in me shifts. The small joys that I barely noticed the first time begin to take up more room in my memories. They steady me and deepen my story. They tell a truer truth than the heaviness alone ever could.

Maybe this is how the Spirit rewrites us — one small remembered mercy at a time.

As the year closes, I’m learning how to remember in a way that honors the hard without getting caught in it — a way that lets me see the whole picture, where God’s steady goodness keeps breaking through.

notes to explore:

gloria: about learning to see the world as Jesus did — radiant with God’s presence — and the brightening that happens as His Word takes hold of me.

favor and presence: exploring the favor of God shown to Mary, sitting in the stillness between pride and fear.

delight: this scene

Gorgeous fall weather with live Blue Grass at The Water Dog, my kids playing happily and a quirky vendor fair.

today’s invitation

Allow yourself to expand.

Today, notice where you’re clenching your fists or gritting your teeth. Notice the places where you’re contorting yourself to fit in a certain space.

We can push back against the things in this month pressing in on all sides — the things that shrink and diminish us. We’re invited to be in constant conversation with God about what matters and what can slip away.

As Spirit takes us by the hand, we uncurl — chest open, heart forward.

There is room to breath again.
There is room for all of you.

A spacious Kingdom unfolding right here, where things have felt so narrow.

Believe that it’s true — even a little — and let Him lead you into His vast, wild God-country.

Thank you for going down the path with me today. If this is your first time, I encourage you to check out this note explaining the idea of the digital garden and what's up with the weird title 😄.

Peace to you! ✌️
