Big Talk with Anderson Cooper and Good Day New York
Big Talk May Newsletter

Hi friends!
Last week, I traveled to New York City. I first interviewed with Good Day New York host Rosanna Scotto. We discussed the new Big Talk Book and how people can skip the small talk in their everyday lives to find more purpose and a deeper connection. I shared with her how Big Talk started by skipping small talk with strangers to ask a simple question, “What do you want to do before you die?”

I also visited one of my journalism heroes, Anderson Cooper, at CNN!
We discussed how to talk and listen to people during some of their most devastating moments in life, and how the journey of Big Talk eventually led to the Big Talk book.
We also shared a moving @makebigtalk conversation. Watch the full clip on YouTube here.
I am grateful to Anderson for his grace, compassion, and curiosity. I hope to share our interview about Big Talk when it comes out!
What’s Next for Big Talk?
After a whirlwind season of Big Talk book events, workshops, and speaking engagements, I’ve been having some Big Talk conversations with myself about how I want to move into this next chapter of life. I wanted to share a few of those questions — and my answers — in case they inspire you to reflect, too.
What are my priorities for this next season of life?
To take my mom on a travel adventure, and develop a longer-form Big Talk series concept that involves experiences in addition to conversations!
What hobbies have I neglected that I’d love to return to?
Songwriting and playing musical instruments.
How do I want to deepen the ways I connect with others?
By writing more handwritten letters, supporting people in need when meaningful opportunities arise, and creating more uninterrupted time with the people I love.
How do I want to enrich my learning?
By watching more documentaries, reading more long-form articles and books, and visiting communities I haven’t been to before (I always try to walk around a new neighborhood when I travel for work).
What communities and causes do I want to contribute more to?
Senior citizens, people with disabilities, and those who are dedicated to protecting nature.
Thank you to everyone for your compassion and support! As always, feel free to reply to this email newsletter with questions, ideas, or just to say hello.
Love,
Kalina
P.S. If you haven’t purchased the Big Talk book yet, now is a perfect time for summer reading, graduation gifts, work and school events, or personal reflection time!
