i'm thankful that when i got outside yesterday morning and pushed the mower into the back yard, i realized it was probably wetter than it should be to mow, but it still seemed like a judgement call and not that it was definitely too wet to mow, and i wanted to mow, as i told you then, and so i did. i'm thankful that though the grass was clumpy and the dew soaked through my shoes, the mower kept mowing and i was able to do the whole yard without issue. i'm thankful to have found that it takes just about an hour to do our whole yard, and i'm thankful for the neatness of that (and, now, for the neatness of our grass).
i'm thankful for the revivalist pop music i have enjoyed perfuming my days with lately:
no fool like an old fool by caroline says, whose album is as bedroom soft and closet mix as you would expect from a band named after that velvet underground song;
shannon in nashville, which feels like a tribute to both amy winehouse and
dusty in memphis at the same time (i'm thankful for tape echo and plate reverb); and
hollow ground by cut worms, which is so 1966 i look just like buddy holly and you're mary tyler moore (though my favorite song is "
song of the highest tower" from his earlier EP). i'm thankful for
the voices that guide tony molina.
i'm thankful for that music and also for other music i've enjoyed that is looking forward instead (and for music that's somewhere in between, like the
snail mail album). i'm thankful for
tongue by anenon, which is ambient saxophone over reichean synths and field recordings. i'm thankful for
both by okay kaya, for the undeniable metaphysical ASMR gentle banger about IUDs, "
IUD," though i think my favorite is "
dance like u." i'm thankful for the dm discussion i had with work friends about carly rae jepsen which reminded me of how much i have come to like her, even though i really didn't like her at first.
