welcome to the jopo newsletter
Hi,
Thanks for subscribing. I'm Josh, and this is where I share updates on my visualization library GoFish and sneak peeks of my book on visualization design.
You can expect short updates on GoFish every week and updates about my book and other writing on occasion. I'll share updates about GoFish API features, my thoughts on programming language design and visualization, and work-in-progress ideas.
GoFish Update: March 17-24, 2026
Highlights
4 PRs landed this week. The big themes were expanding GoFish's visual vocabulary — with new layout primitives and color scale support — plus housekeeping to align the Python wrapper with the latest JS API and rebrand the org.
What changed
Layout & visualization
• New low-level Table operator for 2D grid layouts and heatmaps (PR #327)
• Color scale support for chart(), closing out four open issues (PR #306)
API & cross-language parity
• Python wrapper updated to match the JS v3 API — adds .name() on marks and select() for cross-chart layer references (PR #324)
Housekeeping
• Org renamed from starfish-graphics → gofish-graphics across all configs, docs, and tooling (PR #326)
Contributor shout-outs
• joshpoll — drove most of this week's work, including the new table operator for grid layouts (PR #327) and keeping the Python wrapper in sync with JS v3
• milintun — shipped color scale support (PR #306), knocking out four issues in one go
