Holy Week with the Jordans (and a review of The Last Supper)
Friends,
Holy Week is here, and if you are going to be in Dallas for these Holy Days you are invited to join the Jordan family at one or more of these services. More details below.
But first: having never watched an episode of The Chosen myself (for shame, I know), I did watch The Last Supper: Part 3 in theaters this week with Viv to write a review of it for The Living Church. You can read that review here, if you are interested.
Holy Week with the Jordans
I will be preaching at the contemporary Maundy Thursday service on Thursday at 7pm.
You may be aware that Church of the Incarnation offers both Contemporary and Traditional liturgies each Sunday and for most Holy Day services. Nine times out of ten, the Traditional Holy Day services are unparalleled, and are my preference if given a choice.
The Maundy Thursday service, however is my lone personal exception; it is done stunningly well in the contemporary service at Church of the Incarnation. (A liturgical reality that I can take no credit for.)
If you are in town, let us know if you are interested in attending and we can save you a pew.
I will also be teaching the History & Traditions class immediately before the Easter Vigil service. Class begins at 7:15pm; service to follow at 8pm.
You may have heard me talk about my favorite church service of the year: The Great Vigil of Easter. This is the first celebration of Easter, and it is the culmination of the Holy Triduum services of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
I am biased, but I do agree with the sentiment that Incarnation hosts among the most beautiful Vigil services in the US.
The Easter Vigil begins in darkness, and as the story of salvation throughout the Scriptures is read aloud, candlelight light gradually returns to the room. Once the resurrection of Jesus is proclaimed, the sanctuary lights are fully restored with choral fanfare.
The service is fairly long, running from 8pm-10:30pm. There is lots to see, smell, hear, touch (candles), and even taste throughout the service (communion).
You are warmly invited to attend the class and the service. Let me know if you plan to attend so that I can keep an eye out for you!
