A month ago I told you launch was days away. Then you didn't hear from me for a month.
Here's what "days away" actually meant. The idea was finished. The thing was not. The gap between those two is where we have been working hard.
Most of it was invisible work. A guest-session bug that only showed up on an Android phone with two browser tabs open — the exact thing a real person does and a demo never does. Shrinking images until a share card loads before the person you sent it to gets bored and swipes away. Working out how to measure whether any of this lands without tracking anybody or setting a single cookie. None of it shows. All of it decides whether the thing works in someone else's hands instead of just mine.
That's the part nobody tells you about building. Announcing is easy. The last ten percent is the whole job.
Anyway — it's done. what-world-way is live at whatworldway.com.
Three short tests, a few minutes each: an animal (the role you give the world), your home world (where you feel most at home), and your way (how you travel). They stitch into one portrait, with a card you can share. If you took the archetype or world Glimpse back in April, this is the finished thing those were doorways into. There's also a new way in the mix since the preview — Flint, the self-contained, tough-minded one — so the picture's a little fuller than it was.
Your Portrait
Click the image below to take yours, and read the portrait to the end. There's a thumbs up or down at the bottom; pressing one tells me whether it actually worked for you, which right now is close to the most useful thing anyone can do for me. And if it reads like you, the share card is what carries it to the next person.
If you want to throw a bit of weight behind it, there's a £3 unlock that opens more subjects in your portrait — "go deeper," just a small way to support what we're building. Entirely optional, like all of it.
what-world-way — meet yourself in three short tests
Animal, world, and way. One honest portrait of how you move through the world.
If you missed it
- New article: Why nobody has replaced "What do you do?" — the question this whole project is trying to answer.
We're building up LinkedIn from scratch. If any of the posts or articles land with you, likes and shares make a genuinely huge difference at this stage.
Questions not answers. Roads not destinations.
