SNAP and Food Information November 1, 2025

Editor's Note: The disability community is increasingly preferring to use identity-first language (disabled person) in place of person-first language (person with a disability). This is because many in the community view disability as being a core component of identity, much like race and gender. Some members of the community, such as people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, still prefer person-first language. Both should be considered valid. Articles shared in this newsletter may contain one or the other (or both) depending on the author's preference, and if they themselves have a disability.

This email is entirely about SNAP benefits being cut in a cruel move by the government, who could use contingency funds to support SNAP during the shut down but are choosing not to. Once again making it obvious they do not care what happens to people in this country as long as they have money and power. If you can please look up your local food bank and consider making a donation today. Or of you do need help please check there as well for resources. FindHelp.org will also help you find free or reduced-cost resources like food, housing, financial assistance, health care, and more. While Federal Judges are attempting to force the administration to pay for SNAP but even if they succeed it will take time for those funds to be dispersed.

Currently the website of the U.S. Department of Agriculture is displaying a banner that reads: "Senate Democrats have now voted 12 times to not fund the food stamp program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Bottom line, the well has run dry. At this time, there will be no benefits issued November 01. We are approaching an inflection point for Senate Democrats. They can continue to hold out for healthcare for illegal aliens and gender mutilation procedures or reopen the government so mothers, babies, and the most vulnerable among us can receive critical nutrition assistance."

This is a lie. Trying to suggest that the health care is for "illegal aliens" is racist along with being a lie. Calling gender affirming care "gender mutilation" is transphobic along with being a lie. Democrats want to insure that everyone has the health care that they need and are able to afford medical costs.

The USDA has contingency funds that could be used to keep the program ruining but President Trump has blocked that as an option. This is after his administration has already cut funding to services Medicare, SNAP and various USDA programs. Blaming the Democrats for all of this is ridiculous. People are going hungry and the USDA wants to put the blame on Democrats using Immigrants and Transgender individuals as scapegoats. Don't let them do this. Don't give in to hate.

Additional News Items:

Judges order Trump administration to use emergency reserves for SNAP payments during the shutdown by Michael Casey, Geoff Mulvihill And Kimberlee Kruesi on October 31, 2025 at AP News

"Two federal judges ruled nearly simultaneously on Friday that President Donald Trump’s administration must continue to pay for SNAP, the nation’s biggest food aid program, using emergency reserve funds during the government shutdown."

No One "Deserves" to Starve by Kelly (@broadwaybabyto) on October 28, 2025 at The Disabled Ginger

"For anyone who’s not already aware, SNAP funding is set to run out at the end of the month. That means that November benefits will not be paid out. The regime is blaming this on the government shutdown, despite the fact that food assistance has never been impacted during any shutdown in the past. The USDA has a contingency plan to cover SNAP, but they are also refusing to pay out. The government is making a very conscious decision to allow millions of Americans to starve, including the elderly, children and people with disabilities."

US food banks are rushing to stock supplies amid Snap lapse: ‘garner all the resources that we can’ by Chris Stein in Washington, Abené Clayton in Los Angeles, Emine Sinmaz in New York, George Chidi in Atlanta and Rachel Leingang in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota on November 1, 2025 at the Guardian

"On Friday, two separate federal judges blocked the government’s attempt to stop paying out the benefits, but the administration could appeal the orders to a higher court. Food banks remain on edge for the possibility of a benefit cut, as they face increased demand driven by federal workers who have gone unpaid during the shutdown, along with people who have struggled to afford rising grocery prices."
