Enrolment deadline, party photos, community events, oh my!

You are getting this newsletter because you indicated interest in irid, or attended Toronto Theory or another of Michelle Jia / Chloë Lim’s events. Welcome.

Maybe you’ve been procrastinating. But the time is now: enrol in a course!

Folks, we’re all guilty of putting off tasks that will help our future selves. I (Chloë) personally have had a chair full of clean, unfolded laundry staring at me, judging, for weeks now.

Which is why we’re here to gently nudge you: if any of our courses have piqued your interest, it’s a good time to apply, as seats are limited and the deadline looms!

APPLY HERE

Applications for full courses CLOSE: September 20th, 11:59pm

Limited half-price scholarships are available; apply via the main application.

Don’t miss your chance to learn from our awesome Fellows! Even if you have to miss a class or two for travel or other commitments, we think that making consistent space weekly for learning and community is one of the best ways to ground yourself this fall.

Can’t commit to a full course but still want to be part of our community? Keep reading for more ways to be involved!

In case you missed it…

We threw a party. It was incredible.

We were blown away by how many folks showed up – more than 80 of you! – with genuine enthusiasm, openness, and warmth – not to mention all the art school outfits.

It was so inspiring seeing you all interview each other like researchers…

…play with randomness to create dreamy, otherworldly sounds…

In the foreground, a synthesizer and some machinery/tools sit on a table with a sign that reads "make noise". In the background, seated people are listening to a presentation.

…reflect on how to cultivate mindfulness in unexpected contexts…

…and of course, celebrate our amazing Teaching Fellows as they opened themselves up in sharing their creations. We cannot thank you enough for helping us celebrate the launch of our humble experiment.

To see more photos and help us shape our institution, please fill out this feedback form!

Even if you didn’t attend the party – we’d love to hear from you. We’re at the beginning of our journey, and we’d be so grateful for your input on how we should be shaping this semester and beyond. The irid community is, ideally, a co-created work of art. If you’ve ever yearned for artistic collaborators, here’s an extended invitation to participate :)

Filling out the survey will also get you access to the official photo album of the event, ft. vibey shots from our media partner, the one and only Tomato Studio.

Still want more irid? Come to our Back to School park hang…

If you’re looking for yet other ways to get involved, we got you covered: we’re hosting a chill “Back to School” hangout to mark the end of summer! It’s your last chance to come chat with us before the semester officially begins – whether you have questions about irid, need help deciding between courses, or just want to chat and meet new folks in the community.

Also, for anyone who’s excited to help the irid team out, we’d love extra hands to put up posters! Come by to grab a small stack and plaster the poles and cafes around your neighbourhood to get the word out – we’d really appreciate it :)

When: Sunday, September 13, 1:30-4pm
Where: Ramsden Park(or nearby indoor venue if weather happens at us)

RSVP here!

…and lastly, save the date for the first irid x 1RG community dinner!

We’re teaming up with our friends at 1RG the evening of Tuesday, October 13th to throw a joint community dinner! Think (actually interesting) conversation starters, meeting folks from a different (and deeply values-aligned!) community, and of course, delicious food and drinks.

Seats are limited, and will be free for any irid student enrolled in a course this semester. More details announced soon ;)

Whew, that was a long one – thank you for taking the time to keep updated on all the goings-on here on planet irid. As always, we’re grateful, we’re curious, and we’re growing. See you very soon.

Semper virens,

Chloë & Michelle
