Indy.Init, coming this fall
AI is changing the way software engineering works. And, the thing is, everyone is figuring it out on their own.
Many of us are chatting with agents all day, lost in a sea of “You’re exactly right” and code review and agent tweaking.
What we feel is missing are opportunities to look up from our screens and learn from others about what’s working, what isn’t and how our work is changing.
We first started filling that need through our popular #ai channel in Slack. That channel spun out a monthly meetup - AI in Software Engineering - that is growing by leaps and bounds (more on them down in “Meetup. Of. The. Fortnight!”).
Early this November, we’re taking the next step with Indy.Init - a one-day AI hackathon and half-day conference - brought to you by Indy Hackers and title sponsor E-gineering.
Starting at 8:30am and going until 9pm on November 7, Launch Fishers will be the home for this event for Indiana’s AI builders to come together to hack and chat away.
One day to push AI to the edge and prove there’s a repeatable process for turning vibe-coded work into production-grade software.
Skills sessions will run all day. The event is free to attend and open to competing teams and anyone interested in AI.

AI in Software Engineering Meetup - August 26 at 6:00 PM - E-gineering Inc., 8415 Allison Pointe Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46250
AI in Software Engineering (AISE) is quickly becoming Indiana’s largest AI meetup for day-to-day practitioners of AI for code.
This meeting’s keynote features Joshua Driver, Founder of Selflessly.io, talking through a complete rewrite of their social impact software platform using AI tools.
It’s also a great opportunity for new speakers to get their feet wet, since the meetup includes a Lightning Talks section in the agenda where any one can grab the mic and quickly go over something fun they’re working on.

Big things are happening here at Indy Hackers. At the start of this email, we announced our first conference.
One reason we’re launching this is from the results of last year’s Indy Hackers Annual Survey - which indicated a community desire for more in-person programming.
Indy Hackers remains a volunteer board that is here to serve the community we’ve built and are still building across the Hoosier state.
Each year, we ask our community to help guide for the next year by answering a community survey. These surveys are our primary means of determining direction and programming each year.
They also give us a glimpse at how our community is changing over time - what the mix is of experience, fields, and interests - so we can ensure our programming matches our community.
This year’s edition includes some new questions and sections that focus on community projects, mentorship, our code and coffee meetups, and our public committees.
