The Dead End gang decided to go as the Addams Family for Halloween this year! What costume are you thinking of wearing? It was fun to revisit the tv show designs for a change!

BRIGHTON ILLUSTRATION FESTIVAL

This coming weekend, 31st October and 1st November, I will be a special guest at BIF - the Brighton Illustration Festival!

Find me on Table 21 on the Upper Floor of the Wagner Hall.

I will also be giving a talk on the Saturday at 12:30 about my career called From Tumblr to Netflix: Adapting Webcomics to Screen. And on the Sunday I will be taking part in the portfolio reviews, so make sure to sign up to that if you fancy getting some one-on-one with me. I don’t actually know how you sign up, so maybe ask BIF if you’re interested.

THOUGHT BUBBLE

I will also be at Thought Bubble on the 14th and 15th November in Harrogate. I haven’t made graphics for this event yet, but my next newsletter won’t be out until after the event.

Find me in the Travelling Man Hall, Table D13!

GO-MAN 2 LAUNCH

Go-Man vs. the Star Dragon has been out for a few months now and all the feedback has been wonderful. I really appreciate all the kind words and everyone who has bought it.

That said, I can tell it isn’t selling as well as some of my previous books. That’s always embarrassing to admit, but it’s the reality of releasing a sequel to a new series… it can be a slow start. I love this series and want it to continue for a long time, so if you’re undecided about getting it, allow me to spoil one detail that hopefully might entice you.

If you like Sailor Moon and magical girls, then I can confirm that Grace, Tobi’s best friend, gets to become one in this book! Here’s her design, which I really enjoy!

This is a minor spoiler really, because we had considered putting her on the cover before and it was very obvious (in my opinion) from the marketing materials. Plus on the hardback, she’s actually featured under the dustjacket in her full, magical-girl realness.

And hopefully it might convince a couple of you to try out the book if characters like this are your jam!

GO-MAN VS. THE STAR DRAGON can be purchased from all good book and comic stores, and if your local shop isn’t stocking it, you can always ask them to buy it in!

SUPER MARIO MOMENT

As ever, I like to update you on the latest episdoes of my podcast, Super Mario Moment. And I will, as they were great eps with wondeful guests. HOWEVER, two very exciting real-life Mario Moments happened this month.

My co-host David and I actually got to meet in person for the first time! If you don’t know David, you gotta check out his other shows Fear Coded, Gimmicks and Are You My Mother?

But just a few days later, I got to meet the man himself, the voice behind Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi and more - Charles Martinet!

This was my first time paying for a celebrity photo op at a convention… and probably the last! It was exactly what I expected and Charles was lovely, but yeah. It was probably the most expensive 8 seconds of my life. But it had to be done!

Anyway, catch up on the show here with episodes on Super Mario Maker with real-life game developer Adam Vian (Crow Country, Tangle Tower, Snipperclips) and our episode on Wario Land with sea-dwelling troll V-tuber Velvet Vermes!

And coming up in our last two episodes of the season are an episode about Super Mario Land and a deep-dive into all the times Zelda and Mario crossed-over.

OTHER PODCAST APPEARANCES

But if you listen to any of my podcasts this week, I would love it to be this one because I had a BLAST!

In short, I know nothing about Digimon. Or at least I did until Derek B. Gayle of Skreeonk, Walloping Websnappers and more gave me a full explainer.

This is a new format idea for the GlitterJaw Podcast Collective and we had so much fun! It really is one of the funnier and sillier episodes of podcasting I’ve done in a while.

You can listen to the episode on YouTube above, on your podcast app of choice and follow along with Derek’s slideshow here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lP9Qrmtul5iUIbIXwW97vfROnllmPu9k/view

This podcast also inspired me to draw the chosen children, the Digi-destined themselves!

FANTASY STORY SAMPLE

And finally, another little plug for my Patreon which gives you access to all kinds of art and writing from my projects - past, present and future, for just $1 a month.

And this newsletter, I want to put special focus on a sample chapter from a fantasy prose novel I am writing at the moment. I would love your feedback if that’s your kind of thing. It is called THE UNWOUND PRINCE and to entice you, here are some sketches of the characters.

You can read the chapter here if you are a Patron.
