Hey queer people and their allies!

I can’t quite believe Pride Month is coming to a close. Perhaps because in the UK, most Pride events seem to start later in the month or go deep into July. But regardless, I have been trying to keep the vibes good by reading tons of queer comics which I’ll tell you about in a mo!

Firstly, before I even post the headlines, I want to show you this quick rundown of my upcoming events for July-September because I am a busy bee! I am sadly only doing physical events in the UK for the time being but I would love to do some digital ones in the lead up to GO-MAN 2 COMING OUT AHHH!!

TRUST A POET TO… HAVE A LAUNCH EVENT

Ok! Event number one is THIS FRIDAY at time of sending out this email. But it isn’t really MY event. This is the book launch of trans Tyler Hamilton’s new anthology of poetry “Trust A Poet To…”

We will be putting all the focus on Tyler, but it would be great to see you and chat with you and I’m sure some questions about my books will come up too! I can’t wait!

CHILDREN’S MEDIA CONFERENCE PANEL

Again, bit of a different one here, but if you happen to be going to the Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield on Wednesday July 8th, consider coming to a panel called “ISSUE #1: THE POWER OF COMICS IN IP STRATEGY” at 12.40.

I am joined by some of the best comics people in the UK and I have a lot to say on the subject!

IN CONVERSATION - SHAZLEEN KHAN AND HAMISH STEELE - QUEER COMICS

On Wednesday 8th July at 7pm, Shazleen Khan and I are hosting a Q&A and a book signing at the Common Press, Shoreditch in London.

I’m really excited for this one - Shazleen is one of the best in the business and the kindest person in the Artist’s Alley at Conventions. We’ve been meaning to have a sit down hang out for years and now… we’re gonna do it with you!

In Conversation with Hamish Steele and Shazleen Khan - Queer Comics | The Common Press

Come for an evening of wonderful conversation between Shazleen and Hamish, hosted by the incredible Kitty, on topics such as their queer YA comics, their journeys into publishing and how comics can be a space for queer young people to see themselves and their communities reflected on the page.

SEQUENTIAL SCOTLAND

On 8th August I will be finally attending my first Scottish Convention! I will be at Sequential Scotland in Glasgow with copies of all my books (and fingers crossed!) GO-MAN 2!

EVENTS IN LEEDS, BRISTOL AND LONDON

I also have more events lined up this year, but don’t have all the details to share yet. But I can tell you: I will be doing a signing in

And then later in the year, I will hopefully be at MCM London Comic Con in October and Thought Bubble in November. I don’t yet have a BESPOKE Go-Man 2 Launch Event, but I am hoping to get that up and running too!

TCAF REPORT

Since we last spoke, I went to Canada for the lovely TCAF! I haven’t got much to report on other than it was great fun and a special thank you to both The Beguiling for supplying my books and Fuwari Town for supplyying my plush toys! Doign conventions overseas is always tricky and you made it seamless. Thank you!

MORE QUEER COMIC RECOMMENDATIONS

I have been continuing my Other Comics social media push lately and for June, highlighted some new queer comics coming out this month! I wanted to especially highlight Dogs on Dates by my boyfriend (and ex-Gordon-Ramsay-podcast-co-host ifkyk)! It is really a gem of a book, so funny, so sweet and I would say 5% of the stories in it are loosely based on dates we’ve been on!

DEADENDIA… THOUGHTS…

I recently reposted this all print to socials because of the UK heatwave and it had a MASSIVE response of people still missing these characters and the show.

I then posted some random “where are they now?” designs of Barney, Norma and Courtney which again, had a MASSIVE response.

I have been thinking for a while about what I could do in the world of DeadEndia. The lure of starting a new webcomic sequel is very great. But I also understand for a lot of people that that might ruin the ending of Book 3, or not be really what they want (they just want Season 3).

June marked the fourth anniversary of Dead End: Paranormal Park and I barely acknowledged it because I was so busy. But next year, for the fifth anniversary, I wanna do something special. Would people be interested in something new set in the world, even if it wasn’t the Season 3 that just can’t happen?

But enough promoting other people’s books!! I’ve got a book coming out in August and I want it to be a hit! Because I am so in love with this world and I really want to make a third, fourth, fifth etc etc Go-Man books!

Book 2 blows Book 1 out of the water in my opinion, with more twists than a plate of fusilli!
