Game Dev Blog #5 - Project Lion

Hello, and welcome to the August edition of the Grundislav Games Dispatch. Apologies for the late delivery this month, but I had a cold, then COVID, then I went out of town for 9 days, so it’s been something of a busy month.

So let’s get on with the news and updates!

Project Lion

Status

As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, my #1 priority is building the game. As of this writing, I’ve got the prologue and chapters 1 and 2 completely built and playable, with most of chapter 3 implemented. Unfortunately, because of the aforementioned illness, I had to take a few days off to rest, so I didn’t make as much progress as I would have liked, but hopefully I can catch up in the coming weeks.

While I was away, I didn’t have access to my PC, so I decided to take a slight detour and work on starting to write the script. I managed to complete the prologue and get a nice chunk of chapter 1 written, so at least I made a little progress there.

I’ve also begun to think seriously about putting together an announcement trailer, always a tricky subject. I’ve hired a PR/marketing company to help with ideas, so I’m looking forward to getting that going.

There are lots of spinning plates, but one I can talk a little more about is:

Music!

Music production on Project Lion has officially begun! I’m thrilled to be working with Pete Gresser again. You may recall he did the music for Ben Jordan 6-8 as well as A Golden Wake. He’s already sent me 3 tracks and they sound fantastic. I’ve also got Mark Benis (Lamplight City, Rosewater) on board as our orchestrator/arranger.

So yes, this game has a “music department.”

Also, the reason we need an orchestrator is because the soundtrack will be performed by a live ensemble, something I’m extremely excited about. I’ll go into more details about this in the future, but for now, get hyped!

Other News

  • I attended the Long Island Retro Gaming Expo and was on a panel with legendary Sierra designer/writer Josh Mandel! It was a lot of fun, and was recorded, so stay tuned for that.

  • I was interviewed on Indie Game Garden. It was a really nice chat where we covered a lot of stuff, so give it a listen!

  • ASH Games is having a Publisher Sale on Steam from August 26-September 9, which means both Lamplight City and Rosewater are discounted! Rosewater is 33% off for the first time ever, so you can grab both games for cheap. Word of mouth is super important for things like this, so if you have a moment, please tell people about it on social media!

That’s all for this month. See you in September!
